Educate me on GMC pick ups

I recently moved to Pennsylvania from South Carolina. I have a V-6 Camaro that I love (I hope you guys aren’t like the Facebook Camaro guys) but I’m thinking I’ll need a pick up for the winter. Here’s what I’ve found in the $36-46k range:

2016 Sierra 1500 All Terrain with 45k miles
2018 Sierra 1500 Elevation with 30k miles
2018 Sierra 1500 Denali with 48k miles

They have wildly different options so I get that, but the Denali trim level is the only thing I know anything about.

Hi, we welcome Camaros of all drivetrains!

Those bread and butter 4/6 cyl Camaros make the whole program possible.

Given the used market right now, this is not going to be a fun/cheap process for you unfortunately.

The All Terrain lives above the SLT, but just below the Denali in GMCs pecking order. It was replaced by the AT4 in 2019.-- The $2105 All Terrain package contains a mix of hard- and soft-core upgrades: an off-road suspension with Rancho shocks, a locking rear differential, an eight-speed automatic transmission, 18-inch wheels, body-color bumpers, a spray-on bedliner, Bose audio, heated leather seats, and a center console with wireless charging.

2018 Elevation is an appearance package offered on base double cab or SLE double or crew cab. Its not an option, just appearance on the lower trims of the GMC.

As you may know the GMC (and chevy) were completely new for 2019

Thank you! I knew nothing of “Elevation”.

As for other brands, I’d consider a Chevrolet obviously, although I’ve always wanted a GMC. I’d look at a Toyota, but not Nissan. Ford I’m kind of eh about. Lots of co-workers have F-150’s. The one I can’t do, and I try and like them, like really really try is Dodge. Too many bad experiences and stories.

Also what years have the AFM I read about with the V-8 Camaro? Did the 5.3L have it as well? I’m thinking I need to stay away from that.

Blue 13....considering the price range you are looking at....and those are all used trucks.....would you even consider a Colorado/Canyon.....seeing as you could get a NEW one well outfitted for that price.

I went the opposite direction from central NY to NC 2 years ago. Have a 2016 Silverado Z71 I bought new that my wife drives to Walmart once per week. 5.3L. Haven't heard anything about AFM issues for that year but have heard there is the A8 shudder issue but haven't experienced that. But then, it only has 4200 miles on it. No issues whatsoever. On the other hand, the Silverado replaced a 2005 Avalanche we also bought new. Never any driveline issues in the 22k miles we put on it, but undercarriage rust was horrible. Had to replace brake rotors twice because of rust. Fuel pump because of rust. Take a good look underneath at anything you're considering. I traded it because I figured brake lines or suspension parts were next.

I’m not really into the small trucks. I’m 6’2” and I sat in a Tacoma and it seemed tight. I’ll have to try a Canyon but at least the new ones look better. I honestly think they were very ugly with the goofy wheel arches.

Ok Sir Nuke......

I went and played around with the Canyon AT4 build your own and it was ok, but for the hell of it I tried Chevrolet and built a Colorado ZR2 BISON!!!! Damn!!!!!

Just these from the day I brought the ZL1 home from a dealer in Springfield, MA. Four hour drive. Of course it rained along the way. Silverado was a year and a half old at them time. Probably just turned over 1000 miles.

To be sure, are you strictly getting a pick up truck just for the winter?

If so, your Camaro should be fine with a set of winter tires, provided your region doesn't have a lot of steep hills.

RWD + winter tires is fine for flat surfaces and going downhill. You'll mainly run into issues if you stop on an incline and need to get moving again. Even then it may not be too bad.

Just wanted to throw that out there in case winter driving is your main motivating factor.
