Service Rear Axle

Just picked up my new 2015 Z06 from a dealer who was located 7.5 hrs from me. The car is amazing to say the least! Returning home I was able to put 489 miles on the car, and spent the entire ride varying speed, minimizing hard braking and minimizing sharp cornering, never exceeding the recommended 4000 RPM. Everything went perfect. The next morning I decide to take the car into town to put on the remaining few miles before my 500 mile service. Within 2 miles I received a "service rear axle" prompt. I chose to bypass first notification, thinking it was a strange glitch. With only a couple more miles in and I received the same prompt.
Plan is to get the car into my local dealer but has anyone experienced a similar incident? Any insight here would be very much appreciated!
