Pop sound when starting

Hello!

I have a 2011 2LT/RS V6 that occasionally will make a pop/click sound when starting. Usually it will make this sound when it’s been warmed up and started after a short trip to the store.

Any ideas what this might be? Or has anyone heard this before?

Thanks!

I'm interested in this too... my son's 2011 2LT does this too when warm on occasion. Doesn't seem to cause any problems and I have over 100k miles now so I am not too worried about it though.

Can you hear if it is popping out the exhaust or the intake. I would suspect the VVT phasers either way. Might be dirt or sludge build up on the solenoid's or in them. Doesn't take much. Are you using synthetic oil? Synthetic oil will keep the engine much cleaner in the long run.

thanks for the suggestion. It’s definitely in the front. It occurs while it is cranking.
I’ve only had the car long enough to change it twice, but I’ve used full synthetic

Thanks!

I will try to record the sound when it happens and post a link.
