Car show classes

Would you consider a COPO stock or modified for a car show class?

Has the COPO been modified from how it came from Chevy? If not it is stock, if so it is modified.

It’s semantics. An 8 sec car, with practically nothing the same as a mainstream Camaro. Besides, if there’s two categories, modified and unmodified and you enter your COPO in in unmodified you’re an absolute asshole.

Well if there's enough concern in that particular show community, then put it into an "open" class.

Factory stock, if you haven't changed anything about it. After all, it is a "factory stock racecar".. Ordered that way..

For a car show I don't see how it matters one way or another.

Now racing... Different story

Why are you an asshole for entering a bone stock COPO into an unmodified class of car show? It will likely win because of the ultra rare aspect of it, but that's not the car or car owners fault that they brought an ultra rare car that likely was trailered into a car show. The same would be true if someone brought a 1969 ZL-1 Camaro to a car show. It would likely win, but if it was bone stock it would be eligible for the unmodified class.

Likewise, if a COPO was entered into a race class as unmodified, it could compete against a Demon, Drag Pack, or Cobra Jet and have some competition, otherwise it would likely win the class. If a 1969 ZL-1 entered into an unmodified class, it would likely win against cars of the same era, and in many chances, some modern day vehicles. Just because it is special and/or rare doesn't mean it should be excluded from it's class because it is special and/or rare.

If one wanted to be a truly strict (asshole) car show administrator, one could decide to not allow a 5th Gen COPO to be entered as those cars are technically a "GM part" and aret registerable as a street driven vehicle (they don't have a VIN number.)..

It has nothing to do with fault. It’s just the right thing to do. Look at it from a different perspective….by your rationale very few cars, if any, would be entered in the unmodified class. So if you’ve tinted your windows or added a cold air intake…you’re now modified.

So how come no one puts their cars with a painted engine bay or aftermarket exhaust in the modified class? Maybe those are the real assholes for not entering the right class…make up your mind…can’t have it both ways.
