Most GM execs do want to bring the Ute here but there are currency problems with the Australian vs US dollar. And NA production is out of the question.

The AUD has been approx $1.05 US Dollar for quite some time, and it doesn't look like the parity will get too far off for the foreseeable future. If they brought the Ute over in small quantities initially just to gauge public opinion, I am fairly certain that the Ute will be well-received. Whether they would call it a Ute or an El Camino doesn't seem to matter. It would definitely be a niche market. My thoughts are that GM doesn't want to detract from the Camaro with all the time and money invested in the project. If they don't bring the Ute to the USA, I hope they release it here in the Middle East. It would sell because many people here are familiar with the Holden/Chevrolet connection and understand both.

I was in Australia back in August visiting my sister and the Ute is very popular there. Pretty much every other car there was a Ute. Lots of them had work truck beds on them. I could hardly tell the difference from the Holdens and the Fords. I like them, but don't see them being that popular here.
