Stepped up to help? They're obligated.

They've got a history of windshields cracking, sometimes sans rocks or anything. They've replaced the windshield of my silverado and my friend's tahoe, absolutely no fuss.

Wow what a coincedence I have 13,000 miles on my SS and had a rock hit my windshield last week. It has about a 6" crack also.

I called three auto glass companies and got prices from $385-$450. The lowest was Glass Doctor. I thought about getting a 2011 windshield HUD ready but that was a whoping $867! So much for getting the HUD windshield.

I have Hagerty Collector car insurance but $1000 deductible so it's not covered. The insurance cost is great @ $784/year but I got the $1000 deductible to keep the cost down. If I would have gotten $250 it would have rasied my insurance cost to $1,088/year.

I don't know if it would continue to run but I'm going to get it replaced this coming Friday.

Russ

Here in Florida, if you have full coverage, windshield glass is covered with 0 deductible.

I really think mine is a true defect in windshield. There is not the slightest sign of an impact of any kind. Running hand over it feels as smooth as any other place on the windshield.

They're still gonna cover it, though, right? Any reason you didn't take it in earlier, when the crack was smaller?

If they outsource installation, make sure the installer uses GM glass, otherwise your windshield won't have the GM logo, and it will be obvious it's aftermarket glass.

I just had my cracked windshield replaced today.
$590 from Service King (they're national) and they used new GM glass.

I had my front windshield replaced by Safelite. It ran me 300 installed. It comes with a lifetime warranty for seal issues. I had to have it installed twice. The first time they installed it, I drove off the lot and noticed scratches all over the window. I came back 3 days later, and wound up with OEM glass. I haven't had a problem yet.

I've seen other threads here talking about a random crack that started near the hood cowl, passenger side. People say it wasn't from a rock too.

Take a ballpoint pen and run it down the length of the crack. If it catches at any point, that's your rock chip. Sometimes you can't even see it.

That was Ford's official way to check for warrantability. It works, and it shut people up when they were insistent that there were no rock chips. In my twelve years of dealership work, I'd seen one inexplicable crack out of hundreds. Yep, only one.

In SC my insurance company would change the glass if you have the sand blast condition - had it done on my truck! They tag it a safety issue.

I had mine replaced today by Safelite and they did an amazing job! And I'm really picky.
