Cracked Windshield

Just turned 13,000 miles and noticed a 6 inch crack in the windshield that is now a 12 inch S shaped crack. It started under the passenger wiper blade so went undetected until today. It's boaderline for a SafeLite repair so looks like a new windshirld is in my future. Anyone have to do this and how were the results? Recommendations?

Wow I thought chevy fixed their magical cracking windshield problems, I sincerely hope this doesn't happen to my camaro. :(

See if Chevy will replace it first op.

My dealer said it was caused by a rock but would cover (normally not after 12,000 miles). They use a local SafeLite for the install but will use factory glass.

Good deal...oem glass, all good....good luck. Dealer did mine (rock), even though an outside guy came to the dealership and did it, it was off the vin,and oem...good luck, again.

Thanks I was worried they would nick up the paint and have excess glue around (no trim to cover mistakes).

It only takes about an hour after they start on it. Some do a sloppy job if its not at a dealer, or your not there. I made sure I was there at the dealer the whole time...just to take a good look after it was done, "Just in case"...no problems, dealer makes sure they do a "clean" job.

Like any profession you have good installers and then there's the others.

Don't be afraid to let them know you want their best installer.

...dunno for sure, but when they did mine (not warranty) they said they make upgrades, improvements, change suppliers, even on oem parts for the same year...

Maybe, but I think they mostly have a good working relationship with reliable vendors to avoid complaints and problems coming back to them and having to keep changing vendors.

Not sure if there is any truth to it but my dealer told me that if the windshield was cracked it compromised the intregrity of the body.

same thing happened to me...not even 4000 miles on my 2012 and i had to replace my windshield...i waited a bit to make sure they secured a pilkington windshield..which is what we have now, minus the gm logo. Safelite did a real nice clean and precise install (i watched over the project every step of the way in fear) but it did come out real nice!

OP said it was a rock chip. Rock chips make windshields crack. I fail to see what GM did wrong here. The fact that they stepped up to help at all under this circumstance is pretty awesome. Ford would tell you to pound sand. How do I know? I was the guy at the dealership that had to tell people that Ford said to pound sand.
