PPF on Panther Matte ZL1
Anyone have experience with XPEL Stealth PPF for matte finishes? Is it true that these matte finishes are very sensitive and probably should be a whole car PPF? I just got word that my Panther ZL1 will be at my dealer tomorrow or Wednesday and I have my PPF guy on call.
Thoughts? Thanx, HD

YES, Matte paint is very easy to damage... I would 100% matte PPF as much of the car as you can...

I've had a couple PPF installers tell me that PPF has a hard time bonding to matte surfaces -- something they often encounter with matte side mirrors, hoods (or hood scoops), etc. Is that true?

I have the xpel stealth on my front lip, side skirts & mirrors are which are satin black. The installer had a fun time getting it to stick right. It’s been on my car for several years now with no issues.

Just got my ZL1 CE and considering the same PPF. Have you tried yet?
I am going to see what’s out there local and at SEMA in a few weeks.

No.....I just took delivery yesterday and haven't taken to my PPF person yet. I'm pretty sure I'm doing to whole car.

Entire car will probably be only way to make it match. The expel stealth will look different than the paint. The expel is really really matte where the paint on the car looks a little different.

I would definitely get PPF. That paint requires such tender care that it will forever be impossible to touch up the paint if something happens. PPF will be well worth the investment.

Does anyone have a link to a thread with pictures of where exactly the PPF should be done. Obviously all of the front end, the quarter area in front of rear tire. Would be nice to have a visual to show the PPF guy. I did a search but when you type in PPF it doesn't really narrow it down to exactly where.

https://www.xpel.com/paint-protectio...maro/Coupe/ZL1 As other like Grarhead have said the matte paint isn't going to be easy to match/fix chips and scratches. Personally I am going to do the whole car. Some are of the opinion that the roof doesn't need it as rocks never hit the roof. Odds are lower for sure of that happening but never zero. A buddy of mine owns a glass shop in Alberta, a couple times a month he replaces sunroof glass in vehicles that got hit there by a rock. Last summer my daughter was coming up from Colorado for a family reunion and out on the interstate her sunroof glass popped by, what we presume was, a small rock. I ran to the Toyota dealer and grabbed a glass and changed it for her at the reunion. I'll be doing the whole car in stealth PPF, roof included. I'm super curious how mwc-motorhead's car turns out. I'm hoping he posts pictures soon. |

Remember not all ppf is created equal. From my research and talking to colleagues that have had ppf xpel is hands down the best. |

Just have to remember to pull it off before a decade and replace it. YouTube has videos of people removing Xpel after 10 years and the paint goes with it. It was a pro Xpel shop too, they decided to not use Xpel when replacing because the other brand had weaker adhesion, and some brands don't handle Xpel well.
I haven't removed old Xpel but I just removed failed 7.5 year old SunTek(back when the best warranty from them was 5 years), and it cracked into a few thousand pieces but no paint or clear came with it, although I did apply Meguairs Ultimate Wax the day before I took it in, all those years ago.
