1977 BMW 530i with 3.9L six
I would think this kind of car would outperform, and feel better than the M5 from the '80s. More torque from a large 2 valve motor for real world driving. Like with the C4 Corvette, when the LT1 350 came out it wasn't much slower than the expensive 4 cam 32 valve ZR1.
