Camaro SS vs Camaro ZL1
Good Evening,
I was already for the ZL1 then I re-located. Maybe a dumb question, but I would like to know the differences between the SS and ZL1 .... ? The ZL1 is the ultimate Camaro, but the SS is still a high performance vehicle? Thanks Last edited by Ray_Cam_SS; 08-01-2014 at 03:21 AM. |

ZL1 is supercharged 6.2L engine making 580 hp. The SS depending on whether you opt for automatic 400 hp or manual 426 hp are just a few basic differences. And yea, the SS in either flavor of trannies is no slouch as far as cars go.

I had a SS really liked it until I drove a ZL1. For 15 to 20k more if you can afford it I would do it. The thing I wish I would have done was buy the ZL1 first so I did not loose 3k in 2 months.

If you have an extra 20k and think you would enjoy an extra 160HP, go for it!
If not, then go for an SS. Still going to be faster than 90% of the cars you drive by on the street!

ZL1 has magnetic suspension, alcantara interior, LSA, and a few other things

Looking back i wish i had went ahead and got the Zl1 in the first place instead of the ss. For me my ss is a daily driver all seasons and i bought it outright new 4 months ago. Being I have a C6 Z06 already which is fast as hell I felt the ss was good enough but honestly it was not what i expected (then added the cam and full bolt ons). I am ok with it now as a dd but if I was a in a slightly different financial state I would have chosen the Zl1 ) I would have definitely felt the extra 18k.
My suggestion is if you can swing the Zl1 go for it and dont look back. |

I came at Camaro for the convertible. I ordered a high end 2SS/RS that stickered at $47,700. I have since added $6K to it for wheels and performance upgrades. It now makes 424/419 rwhp/tq which is a blast. Would I rather have a ZL1?
Hell yes!

The ZL1 is light years ahead of the SS. Don't let the SS crowd fool you. Just adding a supercharger to a SS doesn't cut it even close to a ZL1.
The Mag ride alone is worth the upgrade.

I love my SS but if you can afford the ZL1 then go for it, it's a kick ass car!
