Are they aluminum or stainless pistons?

This thread has good info: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=613404

TL;DR
23242510 is the part number for pistons for SS 1LE calipers (J6M)
19207043 is the part number for pistons for ZL1 calipers (J6H)

Pistons for the SS 1LE are GM 23242510 so any place that sales GM parts

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The vented part is aluminum and the base is SS.

High temp boots for SS 1LE are from racingbrake.com

what about break assembly lube. Do break assembly lube destroys them as well?

YES brake assembly lube will kill them also. I dont see that there should be an issue though regarding brake fluid. If brake fluid gets on them then that means the fluid got pushed past the piston seals and that should really NEVER happen. The silcone boots are simply dust boots to keep foreign matter out of the brake piston cylinders.

To put the seals in I used a little brake grease. If you follow the instructions its a non issue.

I’ve never understood this line of reasoning; This assumes that GM did not set up the brakes correctly from factory, obviously they already know how much bracing force is required from the front and the rear to stop the car in the best possible manner. I talked directly to Giro Disk, and they completely disagree with changing the pad Friction bias/ratio between the front to rear for the reason I just mentioned. They said make sure the pad friction is the same for the front and the rear.

I even took a step further and put DCT 70s on the rear and DCT 60s on the front (I was doing this because I thought I had over heating problems with the front rotors. Turned out to be a different issue completely and I was thinking a little oversteer would be faster.), however I wasn’t a fan of the slight corner entry Oversteer under trail braking.

I stumbled across Racing Brake SS Brake piston upgrade (Remove factory brake pistons & seals and install these SS direct replacements) for our cars and I am wondering if anyone has used them and what the results are?

A couple benefits advertised with the kit I purchased:
1. SS Pistons (Stainless steel transmits heat at a rate of 10% v Aluminum)
2. The pistons are vented (Better heat dissipation)
3. High Temp Brake seals are included

If there are any negatives that I am missing, please let me know!!!
I have all of the brake upgrades you mentioned on my Camaro ZL1 including the much better brake air deflectors from the Cadillac CTV5, I wish I could tell you more about how well they worked for me however, I just finally got the 2019+ EBCM brake module to fix the real issues with my brake system (because I two foot), so hopefully after this track season, I can let you know more.

For what it’s worth, I have hawk DCT 70s on all 4 corners and a former race car driver who raced Indy lights with Danica Patrick drove my car and said “wow this car has demon brakes like a race car.” I was impressed that he was impressed

I’d like to know more about your experience with these brake pads, is there a reason why you use them in particular? They seem very expensive so I’d like to know more before considering purchasing them.

I currently use Hawk DCT 70s because they seem like a very good value, but I really don’t have any experience with any other brake pads other than stock factory ones, and would love to learn and know more

By the way, I think I saw your 1 minute 47 second lap time video at the ridge motorsports Park, if that’s you, seems like a great lap time for that car with those tires considering your horse power to weight ratio with those straight stretches! I’ll be going there this summer multiple times, hope to see you there

Hey there, CarGuy55,

Are you showing that you put the C07 Z07 CCB pistons in the SS-1LE rotors, and they fit just fine?

I read there was talk about them being 2mm taller and questions about it they'd fit with a new pad.

Also, anyone offer these for ZL1 rear calipers, other than RacingBrake? That shit is bux!

No the CCB brakes are different. The pistons I used are the same as whats on the iron rotor C7, Z06, GS and maybe others which uses the same size rotor ring, brake pad and caliper as the SS 1LE.

Mikey,

I agree with using the same compound front and rear. If using Hawk pads, use DTC 60 front and rear. Allegedly, the 70/60 combination started with Mustang drivers and somehow became "the thing" to do. The seat of the pants feel is great, because it is aggressively shifting weight to the front of the car.

However, it is slower, harder on the brake system, unbalances the weight transfer, and is difficult to trail brake without over slowing. The Camaro doesn't benefit from moving the brake bias forward.

I've driven a ZL1 1LE with 70/60's and HATED IT. I switched to 60/60's and the car brakes just as deep without over slowing.

I will definitely look into this...
I guess I don't understand how the rear brakes would get hot enough to move a higher compound if the fronts are working so much harder?
Either way, thank you for the advice!
