I bought a Pre 96 4l80E core i am in the process of tearing down and rebuilding using a Jakes stage 2 rebuild kit. It really is not THAT bad if you take the time to study the tear down and build up.
Once you stand it up drain the unit and take the valve body off it tears down fairly simple. I should be in it at about 1k for the core and the rebuild kit. |

Sell as much of your stock stuff as possible and hope for a few good deals. There is no "budget" swap. You need the trans, cooler, lines, crossmember and mount, torque converter, shifter, controller. This is assuming you can do all of the work yourself. $3000 bare minimum.
