College Student Camaro SS Review
Hello, I'm new to this forum and new to the Camaro culture as well. I wanted my first thread to be my first impressions about the car as a College Student, I got the idea while poking around seeing everyone else's opinions and I just wanted to get my two cents in the mix also, so I hope you guys enjoy my review on the Camaro SS as a 19-year-old College Student : )
BACK STORY: First off, I want to say that the Camaro was always in my sights since 2007, whenever the new model showed up as Bumblebee in the Transformers movies I was fixated and I wanted it but knew that it will take a while before I do. When I did get my license I, unfortunately, I did not get the Camaro. The reason why I didn't was because of two things . . . finances and social quarries. I instead got a 370Z, don't get me wrong it was a great car at the time, but due to the aging interior and faults of the car, it leads me to get the Camaro. I worked for about two months to achieve the down payment. A WEEK OF OWNERSHIP: PURCHASE AND GAS I'm glad to say that I am now a proud owner of a white 6th Gen V8 Camaro SS. I purchased the car on March 24th, 2019 on a Sunday from Dodge Dealership ironic right? Either way, I put my negotiation skills to the test and managed to get a very good deal, I mean I got the car's MSRP down by 3000$ good. I felt the car on the way back home it's fast as hell and take names on the street. I noticed how surprisingly good the gas mileage was on the freeway. The dealership made sure to full up the tank and so far I just reached slightly below the half tank and it's only been a week! I've driven to school two times and may I add that my school is 10 miles away, so, in total, I've driven around 40 miles. Know when it comes to my workplace it's fairly far away around 20 miles away and I work four days a week so doing the math it roughly comes around to 160 miles per week. A WEEK OF OWNERSHIP: HANDLING AND RIDE/ CAR OVERALL When I first got in the Camaro for the first time and turned it on I honestly felt intimidated I felt as if the car was TOO powerful for me, but that did not stop me from driving it. The first test drive was absolutely amazing, the sales associate that was in the car with me put the car in Sport mode knowing that I would want it that way. I've never driven a car that changes the way you feel on the road as quickly as the Camaro when you change the mode to Sport of Track you feel the car stiffen its wheels and suspension to endure the speed, it's so immersive and it makes the car seem more like a race car than a normal car. The Interior is what I expected beautiful trims made of actually high-quality plastic, the actual gradient of the plastic is done quite well, it makes it really very expensive even though it's not. The seats are big and comfortable they're made out of cloth which is not that bad it's comfortable holds me in place. The electronic dashboard is also amazing as a person that has never daily driven a car with any sort of screen or back up camera is truly a blessing to have it on this car. Now let's get into the engine and the exhaust, the V8 under the hood is great nothing to complain about really, it pulls really hard and you can really feel the shifts when going high speeds it's so satisfying. Now my Camaro is a 1SS, but it does come with the god sent GM Performance Exhaust System with I believe adds another five horsepower rounding it out to 460HP and shall I add IT SOUNDS AMAZING, comparable to an M4 amazing, it sounds like a THUNDERSTORM SENT BY ZEUS HIMSELF. A WEEK OF OWNERSHIP: SOCIAL CHANGES AND OVERALL MINDSET Now I'm not the type of person to go around telling everyone about my car if I sounded like a pretentious person during this thread then I inquire you to tell if I did. Overall I got this car as a testament to my hard work as an individual I am so happy that I got the car the seven-year-old me wanted to get for such a long time. The social impacts of having a car such as this as a college student is cool, but to some of my friends it's more than that, they know how hard I work and it inspires them to go out and work harder to achieve something they truly want. Overall I like having the car it makes me happy knowing that I have it and hell I look back at so much whenever I park because I feel proud, proud of myself and also thankful for my friends and family for supporting me till I got my footing. PS: Sorry for the long thread and I will post pictures soon! and please again apologizes if I sounded like a treat at the end. Thank you! |

Nice review
Back in college I bought a brand new 2000 Silverado, two of my friends each had trans am WS6s. Definitely good times. Drive sensibly, one of my friends hit a guard rail with his car on the highway (in the snow) and totaled it Ryan B.

Congratulations and thanks for the review Enjoy the V8 you've earned. Oh, and no need to apologize about your words, it's easy to tell that it's your happiness coming through.

Congrats! We want pictures, of course. And, you left something out, auto or manual?
Don't worry, you don't sound pretentious. Just a little green. You made the right decision registering on this forum. From this community you can learn pretty much anything you want about your car. You'll want to bookmark this site and put it on your bookmarks toolbar. Read everything you can, including the "problems" section. Learn what the traction modes do. Watch youtube videos about how stabilitrak and traction control work. Learn how to change your own oil. I cannot emphasize this enough--read the manual (twice!). The 6th gen camaro is an extremely powerful car and it can get you into serious trouble and/or kill you, much faster and more violently than other regular cars. The SS version even more so. The car can be deceptive because it is so composed on the road, but it isn't invincible. Knowing the car inside and out, mechanically, as well as how to control it and drive it safely, allows you to have fun with it. You might consider doing a high performance driving course! It's an awesome way to get to know your car. Have you been to ZL1addons yet? Take a look at the rock guards, and the bolt on lift pads. Last edited by protovack; 03-31-2019 at 02:16 AM. |

First of all, congrats! I had a 13 1lt as my first car but recently purchased a 19 SS on my own. I'm 21 and in college as well. A piece of advice, dont let the car be your number one priority. College should be your number one so you can have these luxuries without worry later on. Alot of people make the mistake of letting there car run their life.
Secondly, M4 sounds awful. Dont disrespect the LT1 like that

I began working in a mailroom for Terminix, paid out of "petty cash" as I was 13 years old. My Dad was Warehouse Mgr. so at 15 I start "throwin freight" out in the warehouse. I saved $900 to buy a 67 candy red Camaro, w/powerglide on the column. Learn the torque and respect it. That will keep you on the road. Congrats on your determination to succeed.

Just yesterday at the gas station the young pump attendant (we don't pump our own gas in NJ!) was gushing over my Camaro. He wanted to know all about it, so I told him. He seemed pretty knowledgeable about the Camaro which I took as a good sign for the younger generation. Enjoy and drive safe. The power is intoxicating!

What year is the car? An MSRP on a Chevy at a Dodge dealership?

My first 2 years of college my mode of transportation was my feet. Luckily my buddy had a old Ford Ranger pickup he bought from the electric company. We live in Florida but went to college in Georgia so we would split gas between me, him and another guy who lived close by when it was Xmas and Spring Break to come home. Crappy thing is we are all big guys so someone had to ride in the bed.
My last 2 years I had a 1988 1/2 (yes 1/2, actual model year) Ford Escort. Got it real cheap at an estate auction with 5000 miles on it. One day while driving the engine caught on fire. Oh the good old days. |

Now I have a Camaro just like you, and the car is on fire. So far I'm very happy with it. I'm interested in how much money you put into it? Speaking of university, have you ever used this kind of service https://edubirdie.com/research-papers-writing-services? Because I've been thinking about trying it for a while now, but I'm afraid because it's with payment and I'm wondering if everything will be done on time and correctly. Because I am starting a research paper and I need a writing service because I feel that I will not be able to do it alone, especially because I have work and I don't have so much time.
