When you think..."Camaro"

Instantly, what comes to mind?

For me, it's vision of power, raw unrelenting power...accompanied by a loud roar...

I also wanted to ask...apart from all advantages or disatvantages, preferences, or peeves. What seems more Camaro to you, Stick, or Auto? I've seen some first gen pics, and the auto def. looks more in place...

I would also hope the the Father of this fair car(Scott, duh, ) would chime in the next time he visits, since he's been deeper into the meaning and feeling of Camaro than any of us.

American muscle, deep throaty (if that is a word) exhaust, 400+hp, & a gastank that goes from F to E really quickly

to the other part-> i really think auto (power glide), that being said i have to get a stick (cuz' the wife can't drive a standard)

when I hear Camaro, I think of a vicious animal that eats mustangs.

and for muscle cars, there is just something about grabbing those gears when you stomp on it.

Camaro to me is the sound of a word that combines the iconic rock star status with that of a rich heritage of something that is powerful and bad-ass!

BTW.... A Camaro or any V8 muscle car is to be stick.... never Auto IMO... but thats just me.

I think it can go either way with the auto vs manual thing. On one hand, manual transmissions just tend to be a given with performance cars. On the other hand, automatics were practically made for the American market. In Europe most cars have manual transmissions. Not sure about China, Australia, etc, but for the most part automatics are generally an American affection.

I don't know why but when I think "Camaro" I think of a beautiful, yet powerful bird. Maybe a predator stalking it's prey. With sharp lines and powerful talons. Something like a phoenix only silver. But you never get a good glimpse of it, just a silver streak across the sky. "It's a bird, it's a plane, no it's a CAMARO!!!" LOL

Don't know why, but I've always just been able to imagine a streak across the sky and it coming in and transforming as it lands. I guess I've just watched "Transformers" one too many times...

And yes the Auto did fit early generations, but the "New Age" muscle car deserves a manual transmission.

What does Camaro mean to me? freedom, power, speed, control, respect, so many different words to explain it, here try this instead.

Easing the gas pedal down, I give the engine a little more juice. The wedge-shaped front of the car slicing thru the air, exploding with power. Ripping into road, hands steady on the steering. All so quick, so instantaneous. One mistake, one misjudgment, and I would be dead. That is the thrill of it. All that power, all that speed, just at my command, and no margin for error. A powerful engine pushing the car in a series of twisting, winding curves at the greatest speed a driver could manage. If any part broke free, it was all over.
A grin splitting my face as I inject a bit more fuel into the engine.
Shoving the gas pedal down and exploding through, engine screaming.

Sitting in the car with my hands on the wheel, I can feel the vibration of the engine travel up the steering linkage and fill me with its music. I am never simply the driver of a car, never just an additional part. Rather, I am at one with the whole. Car, engine, and I are bound together in a way I can not entirely explain. Each shimmy, each small throb, each tug and twist of strut and tie are apparent to me, and I can sense at any given moment exactly what was happening throughout the length and breadth of my Camaro. It speaks to me in its own language, a mix of sounds and feelings, and though it does not use words, I can understand everything it says.
Sometimes, I feel as if could sense what it would say before it even spoke.

I push the gas pedal down, feeding fresh power to the engine, and rocket ahead.

My mind pictures so many things at once. In no paticular order these thoughts flash through my mind and cycle in 3 ns cycles

1. 69 Electric blue with black stripes, white leather interior
2. the hugger orange concept convert I saw at Alameda
3. I WANT!
4. Top down cruising HWY 1/skyline
5. Topless @ the classic car shows at night cruising main street.
6. Pulling up against a mustang at a redlight
7. "Where's a Mustang?"
8. Power
9. Slamming second and third
10. Waving as I pull on my stepfathers C4 porsche from a 50 roll.
11. Ugly 70's camaro.

Again, those things are rapid images that cycle in my head and I can't come to stop on one.
