Thumbs up

Great catch, but 4 laps is a lot, probably your friend got tired or afraid and slowed down. Yes I agree that with the Z06 cup tires his advantage over your car would have been bigger, but unfair, tires compared. Still I believe that an SS 1LE would be better to compare to a Z51 in performance, it would be a driver's race. Thanks for sharing, I think that you are a good driver to had been able to keep up with the GS.

Thanks, albeit the "good driver" thing is subjective, as some folks are clearly faster than me, but i am happy with my pace as an old dog He was pulling me on the straights but i was catching him under braking and mid corners. It was a fun challenge. He never managed to build a gap so eventually had to give me a pass. Agree that GS on cup tires is no contest, especially with a confident driver. PS soon after this episode my friend decided to cam his Vette...

Then that shows that probably the Camaro has a more balanced chassis & suspension even that it carries more weight than the lightweight Corvette.

Perhaps? Of note: he ran on stock PSS i ran on RE71R 295 square on that day. So i was on far better tires.

I think Randy Pobst had the same observation.
While both cars can do comparable lap times, he claimed the C7 was a white knuckle ride trying to keep it in line while the Camaro was a pleasure and could be lapped with one hand.
My interpretation.

I think the white knuckle comments is about the Z06 which can't put all that power to the ground compared to the great 6th. gen ZL1 which has the same S.C. engine. Yes MT driver's love the balanced chassis of the 6th.gen Camaro. I have spirited and track driven my Stingray Z51 and never experienced a nervous chassis on my N.A. engine car very well balanced handling.
If we compare them:
SS 1LE:
same engine
more precise manual transmission 6 speed shifter
Wider tires and wheels.
More balanced chassis
Heavier
Less aerodynamic
Much higher from the ground up
Strong Brembo brakes
Better engine cooling

Stingray Z51
Lower driving height
Much Lighter weight
Much more aerodynamic
Good chassis but not as good as the 6th.gen Camaro
Same engine
Cumbersome 7 speed shifter, you can miss shifts.
Strong Brembo brakes
Narrower wheels and tires compared to the SS 1LE
Engine cooling So-so.

You could add that the SS 1LE also has much better seats , did not like the ones in the Z51 at all .

I did not add that one, because it depends on the personal preference, the Stingray comes with two types of seats to chose, the stock one and the competition one. I have the Stingray's regular seats and like them even for long drives. I seated on the new 6th. gen Camaro Recaros on a ZL1 and compared them to my 5th. gen ZL1 Recaros and did not like the new ones, I will say that it depends very much on each individual's size, comfort level choice, for DD or for track usage, etc.

Glad that you like it. I consider that GM is competing strongly with the euros and Japanese exotic sport cars at the same level and even better than them in some cases, and that's coming from a previous Porsche Carrera 911 owner.

They were the competition seats in the Z51 , i think i would have liked the GT seats better . It does come down to personal preference for sure because i really didn't like the Gen5 Recaros at all and i know a few people that sold theres shortly after , even AL O has made mention about the complaints about the 5th gen Recaros . They looked good though.
