From an engineering perspective, directing air above the front spoiler and reducing/redirecting air from under the car should produce the most downforce. The tire deflectors are obviously designed to redirect the air, but produce drag. The metal straight pieces block them for less drag.

I am running what the conventional wisdom is. Remove the straight pieces only. Keep the middle piece and the four-piece tire deflectors on.

My current setup is exactly as stated here like Scott's.

My track setup has been the same as both of you, running the 4 tire deflectors and the center piece. I'm going to make this the street setup. The plan is to remove the 4 curved tire deflectors and add the short deflectors (84154731) for track, leaving the center piece in place for both.

My ZLE has the small straight strips installed from dealer. So for track these stay on? I keep hearing different answers. Has anyone tracked with them on and off?

The official Nurburgring run had the small cross-car front lip strake and the twin tire deflectors. This zoomed in view shows them both.

Thx RUQWIKR, that's definitive for what the engineers ran

It'd be nice if the documentation was clear(er)

I installed the ZL1 1LE center splitter. It is 7/16” taller in the middle and 1/4” on the ends.

It is indeed taller, as an added benefit it fits the bottom of the spoiler better too. For proper installation you will need one #11516807, pop rivet.

TX does require a front plate. I use the Sto-n-Sho, holes have to be drilled for the mount, the picture is from their instructions.

It measures just under 1.5in (36mm) in the center, slightly less than 50% more than the ZL1 piece.

I used a 3/16” x 5/8” aluminum rivet. It was a tad long, but worked fine. I thought about putting two more about 6” away on each side, but decided against it. I would cuss myself the next time I replace it. If I get really OCD, then I will install a couple rivnuts.

This tool is badass, btw.

It is hard to argue against running this setup if the best Camaro engineers, including Al O., were there with the best driver (Bill Wise nailed it) trying to set a lap record at the ring.

I've got 7,000 track miles on mine without the 4731 pieces, but I'm going to install them for Mid-Ohio and VIR the next two weeks and see if I can feel any difference or see improved lap times.

I am refreshing this old thread for a reason:

The dealer I bought my ZL1 from did not install the center deflector during PDI, only the curved side pieces. (He also didn't provide the straight side pieces for track use, but that's another story.)

My question today is: is it really necessary to use the one pop rivet? It seems like the screws are pretty closely spaced and would provide enough support. Then also it would be easier to replace a worn deflector.
