New member, with a Cobra, joining for a good reason.

Hey guys, I joined last night. I'm here because my uncle bought a ss/rs m6. He's new to the modern performance car world, I'm not though. I enjoy talking cars with him and I would like to be even more upbeat on his car than I already am. The other reason I joined is he has started using a local tuner to do a couple things for him, along with some tuning, and I feel that he is being misinformed for the sake of making a sale. I know sites can be protective of vendors, I'm not sure if this place is one on here yet, or if they even post here. I would like to be confident that my assumption is correct before I say anything to my uncle.

Anyway, I own a 03 Cobra. I'm not a brand loyalist, I didn't join to chevy bash.

Well he was very concerned about keeping his warranty safe. He babies the car. His car was there having a cat back put in. They talked him into coming back for a cold air and a tune. He was only worried about if it could void his warranty. They told him that if the car has to go in for warranty work to bring it back and they'll put the stock tune back on and the dealer will never know. Which I believe to be bs, as I am almost positive the camaros have a reflash memory. Fast forward, the car gets tuned and the tuner tells him since the car only has 900 miles that he can't get all the power out of the tune, and to come back for a retune once some more miles are on the car. Also the guy trades out wheel horse for crank at random when talking numbers, he had my uncle convinced he would be making 480-490 wheel horse with full exhaust and another tune.

We don't 'protect' vendors here. If they do something that is dishonest, we'll out them in a heartbeat That being said, there are a few vendors that visit the forum quite often, and most of them will make sure that a sour situation gets corrected for us.

I don't have a direct quote for you, but I have heard that the dealer can tell when the tune has been modified, EVEN if they set it back to the original tune. What I would have him do is actually talk to the dealership and see if they will bless the tune. Some dealerships are less strict than others with this.

If he tuned it his warranty on his engine is toast. They can tell. Hopefully the dealership is cool with it. If not he's SOL.
