Good touch screen radios for 2011 camaro?
Ive seen some nice touch screen radio installs in the 2010-2012 interior. I can not find which ones they are however. What are some good options that work well?

There are a lot of good options out there so it really depends on what options you want and the $$ your willing to spend. Here are just a few out there

The bigger issue is finding a double DIN enclosure. The aftermarket ones are very ugly and don't look stock at all. Somebody made a prototype double DIN with the stock HVAC controls years ago but never went to market.
Top pic is an example of what you will find on the aftermarket. Bottom pic is what unfortunately could have been but never was. :( |

Still not feeling it. I want to retain the two knobs at the bottom.
Apparently if you spend the time and effort, you can take one of the newer MyLink systems and sacrifice it by cutting out everything but the HVAC controls (they run on a separate connection apparently.) People were working on these ideas years ago, but they were all one-offs that went nowhere. Mostly due to cost I'd imagine. The MyLink isn't exactly cheap, and you'd be destroying it just for the mod. The only real way to achieve this would be to find a junked unit and have the time and patience to do this yourself (or have somebody else do the custom fabrication, which gets expensive.) Really wish Chevy would take a note from some other manufacturers and offer a factory option to retrofit older cars with CarPlay compatible units. There's a very high demand for that. |

Be careful of the hices unit I used to have one and sold it on eBay. Bluetooth was intermittent, App Store did not connect half the time. Plus if you have to have anything repaired you have to pay to send it back to China.. I had to do that. It's a great concept but had a lot of kinks. I ended up going with a mylink retrofit

Nice to know there's at least one "stock" looking solution. I found the main thread where this is discussed:
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=314923 Seems to be a complete system with an integrated head unit that runs Android. Not sure I subscribe to the idea of running a phone operating system on a head unit with its own app store. There also seem to be a lot of complaints. Not sure I would buy into this. Would have been incredibly nice if this was just an adapter so you could install a head unit from a more reputable manufacturer, like a Pioneer CarPlay-compatible unit. Did you retrofit a stock MyLink or did you mod it with an aftermarket head unit? If the latter, I'd be more interested in the process and what it cost. |

Retrofitted a stock mylink. But trust me I'd be more interested in the aftermarket headunit and stock temperature knobs as well.

The reason there isn't an aftermarket kit that "looks like" OEM is called Patent Protection 101. GM refuses to endorse, allow or otherwise approve any after market kits for use at a reasonable cost.
The only two working kits on the market for the 5th gen are Metra and Scocche. Quote:
The Car Audio industry has generally blackballed the seller (since 2012/13-ish) and this kit because of incompatibility issues. When attempts were made to assist him in perfecting the product, he became annoyed and ceased communications. Last I understood, he is marketing trash, knows its trash and scamming people for his junk. |
