I did break the engine in with the the LS Driven 5W30 break in oil for the first 5-1k miles and then I switched to the VR1 conventional 40 weight for the majority of the the rest of the break in period during this summer. And now I have 4500 miles and that's when the machinist recommended I wait until switching to synthetic. So I guess I made the decision to run the VR1 stuff for now but I'm not completely sold on it yet, that's the reason for my post.

Well I changed my mind. I am going to the drag track on Friday and wanted something with a little more protection for the heat. So I decided to go with the Driven DT 40 synthetic for now until it get's cold anyways, if it even get's cold here in Texas. Very expensive though at $15.99 a qt at Summit.

I would think it Texas you would be fine year round with DT40, I called Amsoil yesterday and they pretty much would not tell me anything but to use OE Recommendations.

Yeah your probably right, the only thing I'm worried about is blowing out that valley cover gasket during the winter. lol.

And that's funny that Amsoil told you that, seems like they would want to sell you their oil. Sounds like they have had an issue in the past.

What is everyone's take on the Dexos certification? Amsoil and Joe Gibbs both don't have the cert but claim they meet or are superior to the standard. I have researched it but come up with all different answers/theories.

I use Mobil 1 5w-30 EXP or Valvoline 5w-30 EXP and change every 6 months, even though mileage is low between changes. It's just cheap insurance. Summer only car. Do it yourself + frequent changes = low $ and no engine problems.

You can't go wrong with either of those for a stock or mildly modified engine.

So I got the Driven DT40 in the engine this morning but only put about 10 miles on it. Seems like my oil pressure was a little higher than normal but haven't logged it yet. Probably will on Friday on the way to the track to see what it actually is.

Keep in mind the 10355HV has a wide rotor & is a pretty strong pump. I'm running Driven LS30 with a 160 stat, same pump (orange spring) plus a lot of the same parts you have. On cold starts my gauge is pegged. Here is some data of a cold start, warm up & the end of a 10 mile drive. I like to see the pressure come off the needle @ about 180 degrees before I drive & take it easy until I see the pressure come down to 50 psi. I might be over thinking it but were not dealing with stock motors either. I don't like beating on cold oil. Good luck @ the track!

Red face

I like/use Quaker State oil mostly. Camaro

I also like Valvoline a whole lot.
In the old days Kendall oil was the hot ticket (Dated Term).

All have served well.

Here is the log with the Driven DT40. It's about 5 psi higher at idle in gear than usual.
