Are my cats robbing my hp?
Hey guys so I have a fully built engine (mods in sig) and like the title says are my cats robbing my horsepower? I have the cats from Texas Speed so, what do you think I could gain from removing the cats?

Probably not enough to feel the difference 5-10HP??? It will be a little louder, I have heard some people report they lost a little pulling the cats.

Wow. Never would have thought that.

Mine is certainly louder without the cats.

Yeah that's what I'm afraid of most. The darn thing is loud enough as it is.

Extremely little unless they're clogged. There was a study done years ago by ApexSpeed that showed the difference between header tube size and high flow cats vs catless. 1 3/4" tubes gained 5rwhp less than 1 7/8" which gained 5rwhp less than 2", obviously in a NA application. As for high flow cats vs catless the difference was about 1rwhp which could be equated to when they ran the car, was the engine 100% cooled back to prior temps, etc. In a forced induction situation I'm sure the difference would be a little more different, but it shouldn't be 20-30+rwhp different, in my unprofessional opinion.

Does anyone know if the TSP cats are really high flow? Cause I saw some of what they call "real high flow" cats, and they cost a lot more then the TSP ones and other comparable ones.

If they're the ones that hook up to long tube headers, they're high flow cats. Some places charge more, but a lot of that has to do with where they were made, how they were made, and at times the quality of how they were made.

I might have a set of ARH high flow cats in my parts box in the garage. JRE switched me to Kooks green cats when I went FI.
