Racing pads (most) are thicker than OEM.

1) Do they stop better?

Yes. Better, more abrasive material that holds up under high heat.

2) Why thicker?

Last longer. And while not the reason, thicker pads dissipate heat better, but only for a time. Thinner, older pads just the opposite.

I just brought her home today. Sharkskin Gray Metallic 1SS. I'm in love

Btw, I noticed that the front Brembos are larger than the rears. I never new.

Thanks man. The plan is to indeed keep it forever. Unless of course, GM keeps the V8 Camaro going .

Awesome! Yeah I hear ya on the V8! Mine is already in my will to my kids. At 7 and 9 I don't quite think they understand what they are in for later in life with that beast!

Bedded my brakes. Love the smell of hot brake pads as it reminds me of the track.

Sweet ride, congratulations, enjoy the beast

Front brakes tend to be larger because 70%+ of braking happens in the front due to the back-to-front weight transfer that occurs when braking. The majority of the load to slow down is in the front, plus too much braking power in the rear would lock up the driven wheels more easily.

Thank you arpad_m. The car is an absolute beast. Unbelievable power.
Thanks for clarifying the caliper thing, I was very surprised to see that the rears were smaller.
