Turbo Cam options

I did a random pull from a couple companies. This is a street/stip car with a ~3500 stall converter. Shooting for ~850 wheel.

My prev cam that used vvt. made great power, idle and drove like stock. was a dog off the line.

Good luck. Cam selection is hard.

You could get 850wheel with a stock cam and a 15psi.

It would be fun to try a pile of cams on a dyno. I wish they were easier to swap.

Hey Choda don't forget Jarrett Faggart of triple 12 fame....JFR. He's doing mine soon as I finalize my setup for him. For these I like #5 or 6.

Any of those cams will work... Like Richard Holdener says "any cam, is a "turbo cam". People have made over 1400hp on a stock LT4 cam...

To the question at hand there’s really not enough information to make a more informed decision than what others have said.

What is the turbo & configuration? System design intricacies? Base lift & durations only tell a small part of the story. What is the actual valve timing, etc?

While true on the surface, I’ve seen enough comparisons relating to valve curtain & timing to know there is an absolute difference between a cam designed for a turbo, even varying component & system wise, & one strictly for an N/A purpose, or even a blower.

I’ve reviewed quite a bit of Holdeners testing over the years, btw, & I remember the time when he first made that statement. I disagreed with it on a technical base then & I still do.

I used his Triple 12 in my turbo 5.3 truck. I didnt know he has proven gen 5 lt cams. Ill shoot him a text.

If I'm buying a cam, I want it to best fit my car. I agree an aftermarket cam will make more power but there are difference in pd blower cams and turbo cams. There was a great article about a ls turbo getting a ls9 cam and then a ljms stage 2 cam. The ls9 made great power everywhere but the "turbo cam" multiplied it. Ill have to look for it.

Those who voted #3, why did you choose it?

I sure didn’t. Those numbers don’t mean much to me. You want to talk turbo selection and I am your guy.

Speaking of turbo selection. I love match bot.

1 na
2 stock 5.3 at 15psi
3 cam and rev to 7k
4 rev to 7500
5 add boost
6 add more boost

Damn a pair of 67’s has a giant island on a 5.3 and they spool quick. It will be interesting to see how close the calculator is to actual.
