When you can get new ones in the high 50's, and used 500HP models can be had for 20K, I think they are as affordable as it gets. I was looking at the photos on page 2, does it look like it's got a flat topped steering wheel in that photo? something seemed odd about it. |

you and I must have different ideas of the Masses!
Average price of a New Car in the US is $31k. Average Car Loan is 65 Months! At that, the Masses are over-extended. |

I thought the ATP was more like 36k, but either way 50 to 60 grand is by no means a price 'for the masses'

It's definitely not for the masses but it's attainable

I have a good job and my wife has a great job and we do very well. 50-60k for a car is still a lot of money. Most people would never dream of spending that kind of money on a car. Corvettes are a great value vs their competition. They are not so affordable that your average Joe will be walking in and purchasing one on a whim instead of the Camry/ Accord that he was going to purchase.

The unfortunate part of this is, that in general, new car prices as a whole are a tad over what some may call affordable. Your average spending on a modest new car, after taxes, will be roughly at or near 30k (which itself was once a high number).

Of those that aren't buying new, there is going to be a big chunk that do so because they can't afford to (as opposed to those that simply decide not to). And the average price of a new car is half that of those trucks & SUVs. So deltu is right to say that most would never think to spend that kind of money. Remember that even though hundreds of thousands of people might buy such trucks in an ownership cycle, that is out of a population of a couple hundred million.

I hope it last for a long time, with the second shift but will see, if they can do it, if not it may be time for some heads to role.
