IMO I do not care for the 5.0, been a Ford guy for the last 25 years but the 5.0 seemed kind of boring to me. I'm not saying that it isn't a strong performer just it didn't excite me the way the SS did, or my 04 Cobra did. Needless to say when it was time to replace my worn out Cobra I went SS.
+1.

Hey, you're on SVTPerformance, right? lol.

OP, you've owned Mustangs and glad to hear you are open-minded and not a narrow-minded fanboy of any brand, and considering the Camaro. I would recommend the Camaro SS for you.

The new 5.0L's have an intake tube that funnels intake sounds directly into the cabin and if you remove the 2 foam inserts to get the almighty CAI sound for free.

Part 1

Part 2

Good WOT

There is also "Ghost Cam" tunes that can give the user a super aggressive cam sound with a few pushes of a button.

BigDan-
I'd be very leary of the "Cammed Tune" many seem to think that is what is causing the blown no. 8 cylinder issue but then again I hear other reasons such as ring gap and tunes in general

Well why not have the best of both worlds , looks and performance.. I have an unopened L99 w/ a whipple some boltons and drag radials, I hit 10.99 and am looking to go lower on pump gas stock internals, stock suspension, and stock pulley on the whipple.

total cost 36k for the car 9200.00 for all the goodies, thats a lot of fun for 45.2k...

Bolt on best before blower 12.22@113.29 w/ nothing but ARH headers, catted x-pipe, ADM CAI and a tune on stock Pzero`s!

Other car 2008 C6 Ls3, z51, A6, Npp Exhaust, best bonestock pass 11.80@118.82, Number 2 on the Corvette Forums Bonestock fastest list..

I have run the ghost tune without issues. The #8 issue is caused by tuners using incorrect lambda calculations and turning the sensitivity o! The knock sensors down. There is a lot of hype around this. Ring gap is not the issue as some want you to believe. If that was the case then it would happen on cylinders other than #8 and moreso on power adder cars. Just not the case.

Bad tune = detonation = broken ring land. There is nothing more to it. Run a reputable tune from the likes of Jon Lund and you are good.

stock axles and stock gears. Stock size 20 inch nitto 555r drag radials out back. I have since added gears(3:70`s) and lighter wheels and tires, 18`s out back w/ some NT05r drag radials.. looking for 10.7x`s this fall and then a smallish 2600 or so converter for some 10.5x`s. Its already been done by superchargedSS he went 10.55 I forget what mph w/ his maggie and bolt ons stock internals, his car is long past that point now powerwise. I`m hoping to hit a 10.54 or better and get the stock unopened L99 record..

I think the reason you don`t see more Camaro`s running good times despite many having a lot of horsepower is the setup. Too many people add tons of hp but never think about how they are going to put it to the ground, so they end up adding a whole bunch of crap all at once and nothing seems to work out well and you can`t figure out what was the problem, ie.. to many changes. I prescribe to the KISS approach, using tried and true methodology and make 1 change at a time...

Now in saying all of that, I still think the mustang is a better drag platform, but I can compete just fine and look different doing it Had a GT500 guy come up to me at the track not too long ago and check out the car, then he said i bet you suprise a lot of people w/ this car.. I said sometimes.. I also did more w/ less back in the day I used to give the 4th gen LS1 boys fits w/ my LT1, they could not believe I was handing out spankins like I was, they would search the car looking for the nonexistent bottle... Was great fun..

I like your approach. I always start at the rear and work my way forward. Most do it the other way around. Good times and will be watching for updates.

Go drive both. My wife wanted a new car. We drove an ls3, l99, and 2011 5.0. We have a 2012 Candy Red GT auto on order. The test drive will answer all your questions.
