Opinion - Should I get a 2018 2SS or 2019 2SS

Hello all,

Just wanted to get people's opinions on what to get. I have an opportunity to get a 2018 2SS or 2019 2SS (both are automatics). I've read about the A8 trans issues but wasn't sure if that should be enough to push me into the 2019.

I was one of the many who opposed the front end refresh of the 2019 but after seeing it in person, it's grown on me. Ultimately, I think both are good looking cars but want to see what real owners suggest.

Thanks all!

If you’re not opposed to the 2019 refresh, it just makes sense to get that model year if they’re both equivalent trims. The A10 in the SS so far has not had the same reported issues as the A8.

Having owned a 2016 2SS and a 2019 2SS, I would wholeheartedly recommend the 2019. You can't go wrong with either year, so which ever you choose, I hope you enjoy it!

I am 100% biased.

Get the 2019, especially if it has the NPP option along with the 10 speed. The transmission is lightning quick, the dual mode exhaust pops and crackles like nothing (3rd gear at like 3.5k rpms sounds like gun shots), full LED headlights, the AFM is less noticeable, and the rearview mirror camera eliminates all blind spot headaches.

As far as looks, been to a few shows and meets, everyone agrees that in person the car looks better. Some still dont like it, but that's fine, it's not their car!

If it's not a financial question, go for the 19. i would definitely want to avoid the A8 issues, the new features are also pretty cool (e.g. rearview camera and more crackling exhaust)

I have an 18' 2SS, A8. 10K now with no issues. I have been reading with great intrest the A8 issues. It seems that it is a minority, not majority, but still a large issue that needs to be addressed. However, it seems to me that nearly every person with the issue are in a 16 or 17, not 18 (?). ...in any event, 1st world decisions are painful, no?!

If you are not adverse to the styling I would strongly suggest the 2019. I spent a good part of my summer dealing with A8 issues. I would also suggest it is not if, but when you will have problems with your A8.

I would go with what your heart tells you that you want. I have an 18' and have had 0 issues with my car a whole. As mentioned above, I believe the A8 is the luck of the short straw draw and didn't impact the 18's...at least I haven't heard much. I don't think you can go wrong with whatever you choose. Good luck!

Surprisingly civil discourse, GJ everyone

I rushed out and bought a '18 after seeing the refresh, knew nothing about the A8 shudder. After seeing all the complaints, if I had the choice all over again I'm truly unsure which I'd choose if I had it to do all over again. I'm at about 6k trouble-free miles since May, but I can't shake [no pun] the feeling it's a matter of when, not if, I'll get the shudder. So if you're paranoid already you should probably just get the '19.

Aesthetics really don't matter day in/out, all you see primarily is the interior. However, driving dynamics absolutely do. Really boils down to what you like/care about.

OP, in the end its totally your decision to make. Me personally, I love my 18 SS. I think the 18 looks night and day better than the 19. In fact, if I could not have gotten an 18, I would not have bought a Camaro because I just do not like the front end of the 19. It hasn't grown on me at all. It reminds me of what Dodge did with the base Charger. With that center piece painted black, it just looks like the car was in a front end collision and rather than fixing the thing, they just stuck some black plastic in the big gaping hole. No thanks on my end. I will take my chances with my 8A transmission to get the better looking car. Good luck with whatever you decide.

There have not been any reported issues with the A10, but then again not many have bought them and they have only been out for what less than 6 months? lol

Guy on YouTube just did a review on a 2019 A10. Sounds like he liked the A8 just as well. I do like how they updated the NPP and it is a little louder with more pops and burbles on decel. 7:30 takes you to the A10 discussion.
