Went looking for the PC 7424XP at Lowes.....

So here I go running around to find the 7424xp,no store had it in stock, but,I did find a pc that was similar,I think it was a model 7346 or 7436,the thing confusing me is the backing plate is this something separate to buy?I have been searching this forum and all the detailing sites for info and it is really difficult to break down the info and come to a conclusion on what I need to get to do the work, luckily my car and truck are not in bad shape because I have hand washed and detailed them since new,but they could always look better, thanks detailers domain,dylan@adams,junkman and all that post here.I know there are a multitude of products available,so without using names what is the order of product usage to get that brilliant shine. Thanks for any help.

I just recently found some of the WalMart's carrying a full line of Meguire's "Professional" waxes, polishing pads, and the RO buffer as well. I bought my "kit" from Meguires while attending a show, and it came with the backing plate, as well as several pads, and they threw in a couple different waxes.

As for your vehicles, depending on the finish, there are several pads available to use. Here is a link to Meguires; http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/category/dapolisher-pads

On most cars I detail when the customer request Meguires, I start with the yellow polishing pad. Depending on the finish, I may use the "cleaner wax" first, followed with their yellow wax, and finish with a glaze.

When you buy a PC 7424xp it comes with a foam pad that is glued onto a backing plate, so you cannot use it with other pads. You need to buy a backing plate separately. I bought my PC from a PC dealer during a holiday sale and got it $109 shipped but now have to buy the Adam's backing plate; (I have their pads)

Thanks Moose, yeah I was using meguiars on my 35th 02SS bright red and I could clearly see swirls in the paint,if I had a PC back then I can only imagine the difference.I have used meguiars 99% of the time clay, paint cleaner etc....I guess if someone could answer this for me are there specific polishes and waxes to use when machine polishing or can you use anything, and if the paint is in good shape should I bother with M105 or other steps in prepping for polish and wax?
