Cam only Thread
So Livernois just confirmed that M6 LT1s do not have AFM lifters.
Unfortunately I think this just gave me the push I needed to throw in a cam. For now I'm thinking a MSD intake and a mid range street/strip cam. Does anyone know if the LT1 has the ability to slide the rods in to keep the lifters up to swap cams like the LS motors? |

I am so happy right now
Although, the heads are so easy to take off I might just swap them as well. I havent read much about any proven power from cnc cylinder head work for the LT1. H/C/I and Exhaust manifolds should be at 500 easy... |

i hope to find a cam that will work with the stock headers, choppy idle with ZERO surging, and good power under the curve. Not at all max effort, my thinking that just removing the SMOG and CAFE constraints should open it up. hoping get SOLID mid 11s with a drag radial.

That is nice to know. Like many have said, it's just the price of the work needed for install is keeping many from going that route. Including myself for the time being

What should the labor and parts cost for the swap?

Apparently its time consuming because everything is sealed with RTV instead of gaskets and takes forever to clean up. At least that is the excuse.

i would rather be scraping RTV than working in a 4th gen engine bay. a third of the engine was under the windshield. ive done multiple cam swaps. I always used RTV on the front pan. so that RTV excuse is pretty lame to me. I would get some quotes from some real shops. |

on the new lt motors a cam is more involved, installing springs on the new heads is terrible compared to the old ls heads. No good tool out there to do it with heads on car (we are building one) the rtv thing isn't that bad but does add more time to the install for sure. On the c7's it's more involved as the cradle comes off to get the pan off, to pull front cover/oil pump. Plus the heads come off too. we have done a lot of cam's in the new lt motors and been doing these motors since we got vin #12 2014 C7.

One of my future mods.. 500-550 WHP NA, chopy/lopey idle, mid 11 sec car, drive-ability, reliability.. I'll take it!
Got quoted 4.5k for cam package with lifters, rockers, everything except for headers.. Will prolly need the headers so.. |

Saw you're from Redondo, I'm also here in the south bay (harbor area). Was wondering what shop you had quote your cam job. Been searching Google and so far nothing promising. |
