aftermarket bolts for suspension parts?

So im looking to change out some rear suspension parts for BMR parts. That being said, since the factory uses TTY bolts, they have to be replaced. I know BMR says they don't, but I guess better safe than sorry.

Are there any bolts out there that are like normal / multi use bolts? These are the bolts and nuts im going to have to change out.

You could just match them to high grade bolts at a hardware store, or ARP makes a crap-ton. If you give them dimensions, they could probably match them to what they have.

Ok. I wasn't 100% if going to somewhere like HD or Lowes would work for a better bolt .

I would just use the same stuff.

In all my years wrenching on GM cars (including my own) I have never had a "TTY" bolt fail, or back out, or lose it's clamping capability due to reusing it and I continue to reuse all of the "TTY" nonsense to this day even in this car.

I'm sure someone will come in here and jump down my throat for saying it, but that's just my two cents based on experience.

I reused my OEM TTY Cradle Brace bolts if that's what you're referring to. GM Recommends changing them but according to them they did not replace them during development. (forgot where I read that but I did indeed read it).

When reusing them I torqued to spec and then rotated an additional 90*

I reused all my control arm fasteners. Only one had come a little loose so far and I retorqued and seems to be holding just fine. I actually have a whole bag of new fasteners (not nuts) for all those bolts (and cradle, just because) when I feel like replacing them. Getting wrenches in some of those spots is a bit of a PITA in a couple spots. I figure I'll replace them when my OCD takes over.

You probably don't have to get crazy with ARP bolts, but if you get the equivalent of grade 8 (which is something like 10.9), you should be good. They'll probably be a lot less expensive than ARPs, which are great, but maybe overkill for this application.

The nuts do not need replaced. Just the TTY bolts according to the service manual. I've already swapped out some of my TTY for non TTY on arms I've removed/replaced. I agree on the TTY BS, but I'd rather have piece of mind and not find out otherwise. Definitely don't need ARP, just match the grade (most are 10.9) and the shoulder length if possible.

Kinda where I'm at. I skipped the 12 nuts, at like $2.50 / each But I figure $60 for peace of mind. Why not. Worse case I waste $60.

I don't believe that are actually TTY. I welcome evidence to the contrary, but I think that's why so many people get away with it. OEMs say that they have to be replaced for liability reasons but I think they are just a high grade fastener that should be torqued properly.

Just put in all new GM fasteners when you replace the stock stuff with the BMR stuff, or upgrade as you see fit. Going forward, you only have to replace 6 TTY bolts when you do an alignment if you go the GM bolt route. They are not expensive, and the alignment holds tight. I have all service work done at the dealer, so the bolt replacement is built into the price of the alignment. This is for street use.

I would take the TTY stuff seriously. What you upgrade to is up to you, but I would not re-use any TTY bolt that has been torqued to its yield point.
