Boostane

Any of you guys running Boostane for peace of mind? I typically only drive the car on the weekends and it takes some decent beatings. Just ordered a can, going to mix 3.2 oz to a tank to reach 96 octane. For only $3.00 a fill up it will be a cheap way to eliminate possible detonation from bad fuel.

I ran it for a summer back when I only had LT4 fueling and had to run 93 (no E). Seemed to work fine and I felt better having a little safety margin vs 93 only.

Which one did you order and what octane are you looking to get to?

I'd been using Racegas concentrate for the last couple years with success. I was only trying to blend for 93 (from 91) , but it seemed to work just fine.

I just transitioned to Boostane, and have been using Professional. It seems to be working just fine, too. Again - I'm just blending to about 93.

About how much $ does the boostane work out to per tank when only increasing from 91 to 93? Almost seems like a necessary option in california

I ran it for a while. It definitely works, was able to throw more timing at the car. I wasn't overly excited about the orange deposits it leaves on plugs/injectors. I also had an injector go bad, I have no evidence to confirm Boostane was associated with the failure though...

I decided to run water/meth and skip the constant boostane applications per fill up. Stuff stinks if you get it on your hands. It also doesn't stay well in anything but the metal container. I was using a plastic container designed for model car (w/nitro and alcohol fuel) and the Boostane would darken/discolor greatly in just a week or two.

If he's using professional, less than $3.00 a tank.

I read about the orange deposits, how much were you mixing?

I wasn't messing around

I was shooting for 3-5 points above 93 (96-98) octane. Occasionally would go for 100 for safety on dyno when pushing it to the limits. I was using the "professional" strength, not the "street" strength.

Everything gets a dark orange deposit on them with most of these real octane boosters: injectors, spark plugs, 02 sensors, etc.

I used Race-Gas for a short while to modestly boost octane to 96-97, which got rid of knock retard while drag racing in the summer heat. Yes, orange discoloration is a thing with every fuel additive that contains MMT.

Like 18.2SS.1LE said - I use Professional, from a 32oz can (which was like $30) and used something like 2.2oz for a full tank. I still get a little orange, even at that low-level, but it's not too noticeable, unless you're looking for it at the exhaust tips. It's worked well.

What's kinda' convenient, and more expensive, is Boostane also makes like 4oz "shot"-bottles, for about $10, that will blend a full tank to about 93. It's pretty convenient. Not cheap, but I don't DD the car, so it's not as big a deal to me.

Yup. I think VP has an additive I'll try soon that's alleged to be safe, and I wonder if it has MMT. I haven't looked yet, but I have a feeling it has to.

You shouldn't use more than 2.5 oz per 10 gallons. Any more leaves orange deposits which will destroy your cats/plugs/injectors and void the factory warranty.

2.5/10 takes you up about 2 numbers.

The factory manual says not to use anything that has MMT in it. I'm still under warranty so I don't want to void it. It sucks since these are supposed to use 93 octane and its not available in a lot of places. You can run 100 + unleaded race fuel but thats pricey.
