Question Difference in exhaust between Camaro and Corvette.

Just a question that I can't figure out. If the Corvette and Camaro have had the same engine (base corvette), why do the exhausts normally sound so different. Are they tuned differently, have different exhausts? What makes the Camaro sound like pure raw unadulterated power, and the Corvette sound much more refined? I have listened to exhaust clips from several manufacturers and the difference between says the 97-04 corvette and the camaros from the same years sound almost like polar opposites except for the tone.

The Camaro is much more raspy. Here's the site that I was listening to a few of them.

Is from dual pipes?

Heck...I don't know. Was just throwing out a guess. I would think it has to all be in the pipes.

Well, remember - they intentionally tune these cars...Hell, Check out the Corvette page at Chevy.com...they've got valves in that thing's exaust to modify the tone on-the-fly. But I would think the main reason they sound so different is that Corvette is a "luxury sports car" and should sound as such - Camaro is more a, um, "beat-your-ass sports car".......and should sound as such. That was the friendliest way I could put it...

Talking

well the corvette from what i understand is a true dual exhaust car (just like the mustang GT). Now the camaro in the 4th generation has a single pipe that goes to a large muffler with exhaust tips on both ends of the muffler that poke out from under the rear fascia. my dad had a 96 Z28 and my cousin had a 02 Z28 and even though my dad had the LT1 and he had the LS1 it had the same exhaust systems. Now i dont know if ALL 4th gen cars had this set up but most of the ones I have seen had the setup my dad and my cousin's cars did. My cousin's car had a borla 3" on his car and it sounded SICK .

Corvette's are usually driven by an "experienced" person and they do not want all that noise, while Camaro's are usually driven by younger people who like to hear the roar of a beast. That's the way I see it, without getting all technical.

I'm just looking for the technical difference. If it's the dual exhaust that does it, then my question is answered. Appreciate the insight though.

Just an observation but the thickness of the exhaust pipes and quality of the muffler will make huge differences in tone. Thicker exhaust pipe walls = deeper throatier sound. Also the material of the pipes. Stainless Steel will sound different than standard steel pipes.

I just hope that they put a "good" exhaust system on the camaro, unlike Dodge with the Charger. The Charger R/T has a real quiet exhaust, even when you step on it. The Charger R/T Daytona fantastic exhaust system, has a very impressive growl when you take off.

It's one thing I've always envied about every V-8 Mustang ever built...they always have the greatest tones, even from the factory. Most Chevies just don't sound good without a LOT of money and just the right stuff put into the exhaust system. :(

I don't know if I can agree with that one... I think all of the Camaro's and Vettes have had good exaust notes. even the recent Impala SS's sound rather throaty if you ask me...
