piston wear
What caused this? Essive heat, low oil pressure. high mileage, or too much fuel?

This is a result of the engine overheating.
I would like to see the cylinder wall after this piston

The cylinder wall just barely cleaned up with .005 of honing.

How many miles? Is it scuffed up or smooth? Kinda hard to tell from the picture. It’s not uncommon for them to wear thru the coating like that, especially with some mileage. As long as it’s not scarred or scuffed up I wouldn’t worry too much.

I'm not entirely sure if that's okay.
Ok I consider this... But this is already quite a lot of damage for my taste. Looks like pistons from my overheated 78. 0.005 you're pretty lucky when I see the bitten piece of piston under the lower wiper ring.

That was with 170k miles. And it was feeling like almost like a piece of fine grit sand paper. If you look at my build thread (2012 N/A Build) you'll see he got the cylinders pretty nice with the .005 hone.

That scoring is not that bad... This is one of the pistons on my "other car". Engine will have to be resleeved.

Yes sir I feel like I got pretty lucky on this one. I think if I had went any further on this engine I would have to have it bored to 4.075.

Here's where the valve hit the piston on all cylinders. I don't know why the factory didn't put the valve reliefs on both sides across from each other? I'm guessing it's attempt to save money. That way they can install the piston up or down and the relief be on the same valve which I believe is on the intake side.

I guess things can always be worse. Here’s a clip that could’ve been titled, “Piston Where?”
