Yeah these "baby cams" make some good power especially the low to mid-range.

OP I'm liking the 118 LSA and the -14 overlap. It should be pretty tame and stealthy.
I'm going to be putting in a BTR PDS stage 1 here soon (223/238 .610/585 120 LSA and -10 degrees overlap). I LOVE the chop of my SS1, but it's time for a change.

Yeah, I was going to say 425rwhp for the ss1 is a little low but every dyno is different and the temperature outside I know from personal experience on a dyno can make a massive difference even on the same dyno same day. Early morning vs heat of afternoon.

GPI posted 457rwhp with the ss1 VVT but that had the ported rod mod/PTB and underdrive pulley which is probably worth 15-20rwhp in itself on top of that cam.
If I go the custom cam route I am hoping for 420-440rwhp with those added mods before ported heads but ported heads don't make a huge difference on small cams.
I know the tech at GPI told me the bigger the cam and higher the power band the more the engine can benefit from ported heads but a stock or small cam it doesn't get a huge jump in power. 10-15rwhp with a small cam is my guess as the LS3 stock castings flow pretty darn good for a small cam.

As much ported heads cost I am wondering if a basic nitrous system might be money better spent. A nice 75-125shot on top of that custom cam should get it over the 500rwhp mark but I assume a proper wet system must cost at least 3k for a shop to install?

I guess that is my next question. Anyone have a basic wet system installed for say a 100 shot? Nothing crazy.

Parts are in. So far, ported rod mod, PTB, water pump and UDP under drive set up with crank bolt.

I've heard supposedly the 3.91 gears make the dyno reading a bit off. But I remember the first time flooring it, big smile from ear to ear.
The porting looks awesome BTW! I'm interested to see where you go with the cam choice.

Yep, gears and or stall can drop hp on dyno. I dropped 16rwhp on the dyno on the same dyno in August instead of January with added a circle d 3200 stall. Texas thermal nuclear heat probably was most of it.lol
Tuner basically said chasing dyno numbers is just a gauge of the motor and the car sure as heck was faster with the stall regardless of what the dyno said. The stall was just as big as the tune, headers and cai together imo in the seat of your pants feel. Stall is #1 mod imo and mine is mild.

I will eventually do gears but not 3.91. I will either bite the bullet and do the LPE 3.70 or good old gm 3.45 and maybe eventually run a smaller wheel and tire but I think 3.70 is what I really want if I run all motor on a small cam and possibly nitrous if that ever happens. Stock gears and stall is already tire smoke without the built up rear suspension and drag radials on. I imagine at the drag strip 3.91 gear could present more of a challenge then it is worth but on a roll race I bet the 3.91 gear with a 2nd gear pull would be optimum for street pulls.

Wouldn't worry with the gears. 1LEs dyno about the same numbers as manual SS'
