GPI Ported Rod Mod and Ported Throttle body questions.
SO I am waiting on my Ported throttle body from BO to come in, I am going to install that when I get it. Figured I would do it this way just encase there are any issues with either it could help narrow it down.
I just ordered a Ported Rod Mod intake from GPI ( Thanks Andrew ). I have going to ask Dyno Steve to touch up my tune but I have heard that its not needed and I have heard that it is, What are your thoughts? Anyone have a step by step or tips on install? I am assuming it is pretty straight forward but figured I would ask. Torque specs? I am going to add the Heat shield to bottom of intake as well, Figured I should while it is off. I also ordered all new intake and TB Gaskets just for piece of mind.

It's a pretty easy install. Just the last 2 bolts for the intake you have to unscrew and lift the intake up and out. They are too long and hit the cowl to remove. I also reccomend unhooking the vacuum line to the brake booster before unbolting the intake.

I dont think you need a retune for the throttle body but probably should for the intake manifold.

Do I want to use any O ring lube on the intake gaskets/O rings?

I bought a used intake manifold off a member, sent it to Rick Crawford for his rod mod and used all the gaskets that were on it. No gasket lube or anything. Its pretty straightforward. I tried to find the link that I followed but kept getting 404 not found. The intake manifold is a 2 pass torque. 44in/lbs 1st pass then 89in/lbs 2nd pass then there's a torque sequence as well.
I had my car tuned but thats because it was FBO on a stock tune. Intake, tb, intake manifold, headers, no cats. So it definitely needed it.

I have an oring lube that I use when building snowmobile and ATV motors just wasn't sure if it was needed here or if there was any reason I shouldn't. I found this info on a search.

If it helps any I ordered my GPI ported Rod mod and I waited on the Ported throttle body for now because the wait time. If Bo says you don't need a tune for the throttle body then you are good. GPI says you don't have to have a retune for the intake but that usually you should get it for the throttle body. Just fyi.

Depending on how ragged edge the tune is currently in the car you may need some tuning for both.

Yes I Spoke with BO about this, I am going to have Steve touch the tune up if needed. I am going to install them one at a time to see how each changes the vehicle.

Does the LS3 intake have the foam pads that the LS1 and stuff had, I can't get a clear answer on Google search. If so would I add them after I put heat shield on?

What about the Intake Manifold cover? Not the engine cover but the One that goes over intake.
Leave it on or off?

I left my intake manifold cover on until I replaced the fuel rails/lines. I figured one less thing to trap heat...plus with the fuel lines tucked away I might as well display it.
Here's one after replacing the valve covers, before installing the fuel rails: And here's one after the fuel rails without the intake cover: I've also seen some people paint the intake manifold cover to match the car, which also looks good. |
