I got the GM performance lifters but haven’t installed the cam yet as that is getting installed in the spring. Kind of hoping these will be fine as I got the gpi ss2 cam. The installer recommends Johnson but don’t currently have the money for those lifters and don’t plan on going over 6700rpm either.

We run a ton of ls7 lifters on builds, most street cars. Good luck with them.
spin to 7400rpm on some. Boosted to 1000rwhp. Use various race lifters for other cars mostly doing road race or drag. |

I only got 27K miles on LS7 lifters. Shifts at 6800. Only 16 runs down the quarter. At least one of them is going out. Only a 480rwhp car. Amsoil, changed every 3K miles.
Very disappointed in the LS7 lifters. Johnsons on order.

Does anyone know what the preload should be on the gm performance racing lifters (88958689)? I've read .050 - .100 and some say .030 - .035

Lifter preload can be used to make a safety margin to account for cams with small PTV clearance. Thats usually where you see people recommending small amounts of preload. Essentially, in a bad situation, the lifter can only pump up a small amount and keeps the valve and piston from making contact.

I would go solid lifters with low lash cam if you can afford the new rockers

So I think I have a collapsed lifter. I have another lifter tick and this time it's pretty bad and I'm currently using the gm performance racing lifters. I could definitely tell it was on the passenger side so I digged into it with a pushrod checker. I found one lifter that wasn't pumped up and the lifter looked like this one. The one one the left was pumped up the one on the eight wasn't. Do you guys think that this is my culprit?

Johnson 2116LSR are ok with my new engine so far. We’ll see how they do once I get back on track (which I suspect they’ll be fine).
I don’t have anything to offer with your more recent question, though. I’ve been so used to ticking from under hood that I don’t even worry about it anymore. Between lifters, rockers, headers, gremlins, trolls… there’s so much noise that I just keep sending it.
