Question Ls2 vs Ls3 heads.

So what kinda power loss am I looking at with switching from my LS3 heads to a set of LS2 heads?

Only asking because my one ls3 heads is junk and I got a set of LS2 heads for free.

Will my valves from my ls3 head fit in the ls2?
Will my springs are rockers from my ls3 work with the ls2 heads?

Rockers won't fit. Intake manifold won't fit. Odds of making 1000 without heads lifting are slim.

If you can't afford some new LSA heads you can't afford 1000hp imo. I would lower your goals if you even have to ask stuff like this.

Yeah totally different top end architecture there. Ported LSA heads (since they're already out in the open) and done.

Heads lifting? Funny because the 5.3 is an extremely common build around here and several people are making 900-1000whp with no head's lifting. ARP head studs.

Only asked about the heads because they had been given to me.

If they don't work I'll send them off have them cleaned milled and sell them.

Yes, ls1/2/6 heads are more prone to lifting. Deck design is not as robust.

Ya. I sent it off and that's how I got it back.

Was going to order the ported gm performance ls3 heads but had a set of 317s given to me. Figured if I could save $1200 why not. I knew the efficiency was lower then the ls3 heads just was sure how big of a difference it would make in boost.

I would recommend selling the heads you got for free and put that money towards another head to replace your damaged one. It will save you time, and money in the long run.

317s are not ls2 heads. Ls2 has 243s. I might be mistake but I believe the 317s are good for boost

Gonna need a new intake, gonna need new rockers, and to make the LS3 valves work.....pretty sure the heads will need a complete valve job.

Ii I were in your position.....I'd buy a single LS3 head off Ebay.....and sell those 317 heads. But that's just me.

From everything I have read - UNREAL is treasure trove of knowledge and as far as I can tell, has NEVER been wrong.

You would be wise to listen to him here and even PM him for more specific knowledge. From what I can tell, he is always MORE than willing to help.

He is running at 3-4 times stock rwhp reliably... Just saying.
