Oil change question??? Oil experts come on in...

1st… Does NEW oil go bad if it still left in its original container? I did an oil change last year and bought two of the 5qt Mobil 1 jugs. I have approx 2qts left from the last change and was wondering if I could still use this for this oil change.

2nd… I am due for an oil change; however, my car is going into storage for the year this week. Should I change the oil now, or wait until I pull the car out in spring to do it. I guess for me I don’t like the idea of old dirty oil sitting in the car over the winter.

Thanks

the oil sealed should be fine, and yes change that oil now before you put it in storage and put stabil in the gas tank.

Yup. As long as the second bottle was never opened it's still good.

That's the problem. I bought the two 5 qt containers, so even though new I had to crackthe seal one year ago. So... you are saying don't use it?

The answers are not even clear cut with sealed containers, let alone opened ones. Storage conditions are a huge impact. I would not use the oil myself if the container was stored in my shed that sees a wide temperature range (-20deg f --> 120deg f); whether it was previously opened or not.

Its nice having a temperature controlled garage!! I found this article in a quick google search:
