Visibility is not the issue I heard and read about, and I have a convertible. The rearview camera mirror "cures" any blind spots the tiny rear window would create. I drove semis for a few years and got used to no rearview mirror. Only side mirrors on big rigs. The thing that is giving me the most trouble are the backup sensors. Too sensitive in my opinion. I back up into the garage and it is the single door of a 3 car garage. The driveway isn't 3 cars wide so I turn while backing and the dang sensors are giving me fits going off when not necessary. I do have the mirrors set to tilt down in reverse but the alarms keep making me stop and look at my line up. Pretty soon I'll learn to just rely on me and not them and just back in.

However, when it comes to Camaro's, whether 5th or 6th gen, I think that more of it has to do with seating position and height. I see a lot of dudes who are vertically challenged sit in wildly inappropriate positions, then complain about not being able to see out of the car. The belt line of the 5th and 6th gen is rather high, especially compared to most cars. I think the seating position for most folks, especially if you're under 6', needs to be raised to a position that might not be intuitively comfortable. I say that they should make this adjustment while I fully acknowledge that I won't adjust my sideview mirrors but, I also never had any trouble whatsoever with seeing out of any of my Camaro's, be that blind spots or just simply navigating around in it.

I drive for a living and I still do this, I would rather have a reference point

Yep.

You can test this while driving, the PROPER way to have them set is when the car in the next lane starts to move OUT of the view of the rear view mirror, into the infamous "blind spot", it moves INTO the side mirror. This doesn't happen though when your side mirror is set to be redundant and not actually cover the "blind spot". Then, when it comes out of the "blind spot", it's within your visual perception without moving your head (right next to you). The car (passing you) is in view at all times.

This is literally why side mirrors were invented people.

In any case, those that fail to set up their mirrors correctly should be barred from complaining about visibility.

Thanks for explaining what I wanted to explain. That's a great explanation.

As I said, other than when you are parking and trying to avoid curbing the wheel, I don't see why you need the frame of reference once you get used to the SAE method. The left mirror is where you have the blindspot but that side doesn't mess with the depth perception since it's a flat mirror.

That's how I set up mirrors on all the cars I have driven since I got the C7 Corvette. I haven't looked back since.(get it?) It was definitely weird in the beginning, but within a few days I just realized how much better my view is.

The reference should only be visible when you "lean in to it" which will take care of the entire area.

And the problem with a BSIL is a fast moving car comes into the zone quicker than the light can alert.

The worst things:
1. Ugly dash, infotainment screen looks stuck on as an after thought.
2. Middle console arm rest.
3. No storage.
4. Driving mode controls should be on steering wheel.
5. Knee pads should be identical on both sides of legs and adjustable.
6. Sunroof should be bigger.
7. Oh and the brake pad dust.
8. No matter where you park some dingus has to park right next to you.
9. A8, no issues but always in the back of my mind.

Otherwise I smile every time I drive it----

For me:

I can't change a playlist on the upgraded console while driving (yes, the vocal control is supposed to be able to do this, but I haven't gone through and changed the names of my playlists to something voice recognition recognizable).

Yeah, that's true, but what could be that much faster than a Camaro?

Okay, joking aside, this is possible, but that car is unlikely to be coming out of nowhere, you would have already seen it in the mirror closing in, unless it peels out from behind you and gains that much speed in almost no time, which is even more unlikely.

There are some merge/join ramps where others come at speed from the other fork, but who would merge blindly in those, you look around and gooseneck as necessary instead of relying on BSM.

Use your rear view mirrors turn your head back and look over your shoulder to check your blind spot. It is exactly like any other car.

Oh yea the cup holders suck esp w/ a manual. My 3rd gen trans am had them on the door which was perfect. Now that I think about it, my 2020 Lexus has them in the door too.

This is the way. AND if you’re really up for some laziness… but with some style… find you some wide angle mirrors that help you not bend your neck…

I think it's easier to achieve in a C7 in general. I had a C7 Z06 and I could set my mirrors up similarly to what is described in this thread. But that's just the nature of the C7. Although I still purposefully adjusted my mirrors where I could still have some line of sight on the profile of my C7Z. Although it was much easier to accomplish that with such wide hips on the car.
