what's backlash at? looks like it needs to be deeper in the ring gear. and maybe a little bit added to the pinion shim. I like to take a beating and hone out the center so it slides on and off by hand just to set them up and put a new bearing on when it's all said and done. so you're not pressing it on and off, potentially destroying them

I'd try adding a little bit to the pinion and see what you've got then. that should move the pattern towards the heel a little and get it a little deeper in the ring gear

these rears take very minimal backlash so that is good.

What gears OP? If AAM please read up on 2 step vs 5 step cut gear sets...http://www.demandaam.com/technical-s...ng-pinion-sets

when I did mine since it is a 2 step cut the pattern WILL look a bit different than what most people expect...and setting the pinion depth can be a B(the above suggestion regarding making the bearings internal id larger works but only if replacing the bearings-most don't-I did) on a non GM WILL require a diff pinion shim...I got lucky(not really-research pays off) and was able to just take the shim from my 3.45 and put it on the AAM pinion...even after replacin all the bearings the pattern and backlash were perfect-.002 on the backlash, tight to allow breakin..used Mobile LS gear oil, change at 500 mi..over 2 to 3k mileage so far...whisper quiet. mileage includes about 50 runs down the 1/4 and lets just say some hwy over 100(safely!HAHAHA).

good luck OP looks like you are on the right track..make sure to get the bearing caps tq'd properly and while you are in there seriously consider replacin the axle seals..easy and cheap. l8tr
