I did my first cam swap at 65k miles. Kept original lifters.

The condition of the lifters is important and since its not a flat tappet your not removing them to inspect them, if you have a bad roller from a bad lobe of a improperly heated/cured /baked/micro polished or improperly broken in cam,( yes a roller cam should have a good ZDDP break in also despite what chuckle heads say), or you have made the transfer of the defect from the original cam onto the roller then onto the next cam...... Having actually been a old motorhead for many decades now I have used used cams and lifters on cars with flat tappets and always matched exactly the lifters to the cam when placing the used parts into the other engine from the donor engine and had great success..... any damage or bad scoring or pock marks from forging the bumpstick and its garbage and the lifters........ Lifters are simply too cheap and easy to replace, and general its thought that on a roller for my expert tuner anything over 25k or so for a ls engine...pull the heads and new lifters or you risk.... Because pulling the old cam there will be some wear marking from the tracking of the roller and you don't get to inspect the roller or the lifter. Having been able to get a cam onto old lifters is kind of a pray and luck situation and one most good shops avoid if at all possible when recommending work to modify a car.

That Bo had luck does not mean everyone will with a car with 65K on the odometer will, but then again Bo most likely changed his oil often, used good filters, did not do stupid things or trash his engine with contaminants in the oil or use it far beyond the limit for the ZDDP in the oil to effectively protect it, and did not have a bad cam in the first place.

My tuner Tommy Wong has replaced lots of stock cams in stock GM cars with roller lifters that had bad cams factory or bad rollers...which came first the chicken or the egg, or a vain owner thinking they know that 20w50 must be better because Cooter the local wrench told him so.........and it made his LS engine a little quieter for that chatter that is endemic with roller lifters and louder with a higher lash/preload.....

Just IMO stuff here but I know because I have been there and done that on a lot of stuff, And for some of us there is no acceptable loss, no room for failure as its not a option..... That's the thing about spending other people money.......One party really loves to control it and manipulate the populace and media with it, that's what makes them the party of the other guys money.....You know the one who pays for the Bum to have health care because your so rich you can afford good for yourself and you just have to lay off a couple people to afford higher taxes...so the bum can have health care........which turns out to be the guy you just had to lay off........ Here in Oregon our Screaming liberal BI bozo of a governor is trying to shove taxes down our throat any way she can; using the legislature any way she can to promote her liberal agenda and we unfortunately are victims of the largest populace areas being Stupid liberal keeping weird paying billions for example....Seattle.. Portland; for failing in non-profitable rail lines which went the way of the dinosaur for good reason and suck resources for a transit system that has the same ridership as the 1970's...and social engineering the mega multi million dollar per mile rail lines with no parking and crappy condos and apartments that are supposed to attract business when really it repels them.

You like your Doctor you can keep your doctor, you like your plan you can keep your plan....you just cant vote on it because we have determined what we think is in your best interest, we here at big government central have determined your every move is best controlled by a pompous Arse...... OMG I am ranting Big government is the Problem, I know I work for the Government and have for decades in many positions. And man am I sure glad I have that extra 2500$ a year in cost savings from Obamacare..what I don't save?, I have to pay now to supplement and there is no future its all imploding and rising....imagine that, well we better find someone else to tax..... no one needs there own money in say a communist or socialist state right? What even China and Russia are free market economies?...we better bury that in text books so we can warp the minds of our future leaders comrade.....
