Going rates for Ls3 cam jobs

I recently contacted a local LS shop about doing a cam upgrade in my ls3 camaro... I was quoted 5500$ parts labor and tune... it just seems high to me but is that about right? ... what have others members spent? Any input would be appreciated... but for 5500 stock cam chops pretty good all the sudden lol thank you.

Assuming the shop is up where you're at, that could explain the price delta. Nonetheless, $5500 is a long way toward going FI which works fine with stock cam and can make way more power. There is something to love about NA cars though.

That's pretty steep. Maybe they quoted high end parts to bound the quote. Should be about $1500 in parts

I shopped prior...

Shop 1- "about 6k"
Shop 2- 8900
Shop 3- 10100

I wanted 6 bolt heads and a cam. I actually went with the most expensive shop because it was very well known and closest.

Shop 1 wanted to use Brodix heads
Shop 2 wanted to use Mast heads
Shop 3 wanted to use Frankenstein heads

Seems high for a LS3. Hypothetically if parts were $1500 that would still leave the shop 40 hrs. @ $100/hr. minus fluids & tune. The shop rate must be stupid high.

I did the labor myself, but I can tell you as I'm getting ready to refresh some items, the prices of parts have increased 50-75% in the last 2-3 years.

For example, I bought Johnson 2110R lifters for $450 and now they're closer to $775. Makes it kinda hard to budget based on previous experiences.

OP, I would contact Andrew Cammer here & have him price a package for you. He will give you an honest evaluation on what is the best setup for your application & how you will drive the car. I am mostly street with some strip in the future. I could not be happier with the results.
