6th Gen VS 5th Gen (fuel economy)
6 Gen V6
19 city 23 combined 28 highway (1,150 per year) 5th Gen V6 19 city 22 combined 30 highway (1,250 per year) Doesn't seem like there is much difference in the fuel economy. What makes the 6th Gen better than the 5th ? are you getting better average MPG's with the 6th ? |

Unfortunately, and surprisingly, lighter weight, a different engine, 8 speed auto, and start/stop technology couldn't give the 6th gen much of a bump over the 5th gen. I think the city rating is a bit better, but the highway rating is nearly the same.
The reason the 5th gen V6 shows 30mpg, is because that is based on the "2LS" trim, which does not exist anymore with the 6th gen. The 2LS models had a higher rear end ratio, which helped to provide a better highway rating versus the regular LT models (which where 28mph I believe). For the 6th gen, only the LT models are carried on, and they all use a lower gearing than the 5th gen 2LS did.

18 City 21 Combined 27 Highway Cost $1250 a year My guess is also the LGX rings a little more power over the LFX due to more aggressive tuning, resulting in less MPG. Betting AFM and Start/Stop just kept it from loosing any MPGs over the LFX. The real story here is the positioning of the LGX as mid tier engine instead of the basic. The LTG will provide the boost in MPGs if someone is really looking to save.

Agree...the 2.0 should be a fun car to drive, and may provide the best economy numbers of the group, including Mustang.
