STATUS UPDATE:

As of today ( april 9 ) the dealer and a GM tech believe they have found the culprits of the problems that caused all the issues with my ZL1

First a couple of weeks ago the PCM was replaced and earlier this week was determine the Body Control Module ( Part 92242286 ) was bad and one of the connectors underneath the fuse box was bad or shorted (get clarification later )

They are going to put through more tests and i should get back by Monday

gee a little scary hearing that the problems did not begin to surface until 11k miles. I am having some modifications done to my car next week, and I can only pray that I don't have issues down the road and have to face possible warranty issues. Like you mentioned you were very blessed that Gm didn't notice that a tune had been done, if that had can you imagine the can of worms that you might need to deal with?.

I got the ZL1 back today and everything appears to be in working perfectly (fingers crossed )

In addition to my last post , they also had to replace the ABS module ; so along with PCM and Body Contro Module ...... One could write it had no brains ... LOL

Today , I took the battery out of ZL1 and took it back to Autozone and the battery tested fine by their tech, but I insisted on a new battery and they give me an upgrade to the Duralast Platinum and I got it home and installed and all lights (check engine, brake , stabiltrack ,et. Still lit up ) even after letting idle for awhile..

It's my belief the CULPRIT to this being reported is a MAJOR cost to GM and until enough of us complain and post our findings and diagnoses from GM dealers trying to fix the problem (s) , GM will just say an isolated case!

This is why I keep all my service tickets.
Have been listening to the news lately
It took 13 people dead , for GM to admitted something wasn't right , ,,,,,,,

Not sure it's a ZL1 specific issue. I have a 2013 Cruze LTZ RS and the electrical issues this car has amazes me. There are several threads, some 40+ pages with people having the same issues.

One very common issue is the radio shutting on and off, lights flashing, and loss of power steering. Seems the most common attempt at a fix is replacing battery cables, fuse box, and checking grounds. I'm not sure I've seen one that has been completely fixed by this.

Another is getting in the car to start it and service theft deterrent system is on. Typically it doesn't start, sometimes if you key on and off several times it starts.

These are just 2 of many issues... GM needs to step up and figure this out.

Update May 22, 2014

* First I'm limited by the number of miles I can drive now with the ZL1 due to collector cars insurance. It's been driven 1 time since the repair and battery kept on a battery tender.

This past week, I took it to Las Vegas for an event (trailer it ). Started up with no problems and then went down hill from their.

First part of the Vegas event, was about a 10 mile parade route at 10-15 mph. Got to the end point and turned off the ZL1.

After about 10 minutes, tried to start the ZL1 back-up with no luck. It would act like it wasn't getting fuel. One of the gear heads in attendance thought it could be the fuel pump.

So 20 minutes later, the ZL1 started, but hesitatingly. Runs fine once it starts.

So next morning, ZL1 starts up with first turn of the key, get to the car show, stop the car and had to re-start to re-position it and again acted like it didn't want to start period, but did. 8 hours later, when show was over, car started with first turn of key, but was hesitant again.

So yesterday, I made this video to document what's going on.

1) first part of video is from cold start
2) 2nd part of video is from taking for short 2 mile cruise, park by in garage , turn off car, and then try to re-start it

Sounds to me like the tune is messed up. You should be in closed loop during startup.

Start up is open loop, but the time spent in open loop will decrease as the ECT increases.

Definitely tune related. With aggressive cams, it can be tricky. Same exact thing would happen to my G8 GT after it was cammed. It would start right up without a problem on cold starts, but once I drove it and got up to temperature, it would have to sit for a while or else I'd have a hard time starting it. If you try to start it up a few minutes after shutting it down after it's been running enough to be up to normal operating temperatures, that's where the problem comes into play.

After GM dealer replaced the PCM and Body Control module & AbS module (all under warranty) , Livernois provided the tune to retune it.

LIvernois suspects it's related to ELECTRICAL and specifically related to the Oracle / AAC lights installed when I met you last summer ! Where the power / dead battery issues appeared right after leaving them
