Good call. There's plenty of 5th gens out there that pulling the trigger on one simply because it is a deal in front of you this second isn't a good way to go.
As for the rental issue, there's good and bad rentals. I personally wouldn't purchase a high performance car that was a rental, but I have owned 2 other cars that were rentals and they held up well other than typical wear and tear items and known defects for that make and model of car. 5 owners is a little unnerving. I was worried being the 3rd owner of my car in 2013 when it was a 2010, but I didn't want to pass up an ABM.

I went and drove it It has headers no cats tune etc I was told if I bought it legally that they would have to put cats back on before they could sell it. Paint was faded in spots and had scratches on it IMOP probably a 15k car and under. Just gotta be patient

Imagine if you will, that you 'loaned' your Camaro out to a different person every few days. Good drivers, bad drivers, conscientious drivers, curb busters and those who don't give two shits about a car they don't own. Throw in rotating, brushed car washes every few days, never a wax job, maybe good maintenance practices, maybe not. How could buying a rental car EVER be a good thing?

I am the the 3rd owner or a 2013 SS2 Convert that was a rental and am very happy with it. Holding off for a 2013 or newer gets you a better radio.

I rent cars about 20 weeks a year. I guess I just see more first hand what goes on. Like making sausage, you don't want to watch!

Really the price is super high. I work for a dealer and all things considered you can find a way better deal with a little bit of patience! Happy hunting!

If I'm going thru the trouble of car shopping, I would want the car to be as close to new condition (and at a bargain) as my finances would permit.
So my answer would be no. Shop around, as you may be surprised to see how much better you could do with a little patience and perseverance.
