Any Sports Card Collectors?

Just wondering if there are any sports card collectors here. I used to collect baseball cards as a kid in the early 80s and basketball cards as an adult in the late 90s. Finding out the potential value of a few of my basketball cards has gotten me slightly interested in the hobby again.

I have a complete 1973 Topps baseball set; I bought a lot of them as a kid back then - 10 cents a pack including the gum - and finished out the set about 15 years ago. I’ve also got some 71, 72 and 74 Topps baseball and then a pretty good assortment of football, hockey and basketball cards from the same general era.

And then I have a big box of 90s-early 2000s cards I got from my neighbor for $15 at a garage sale. Like thousands; he begged me to take them, since his son didn’t want them anymore.

I have a lot of baseball and football cards from the mid-late 70's. Those are the only ones I have collected and kept over the years.

I haven't looked at my baseball cards in a long time, but if I remember correctly, I have 1971 Topps Willie Mays and Willie McCovey. One is not in very good shape (the Mays, I believe), the other is ok. Neither is probably worth very much in their condition.

If you have any basketball cards in that big box, let me know if you'd be willing to sell any of them.

Like many, I collected football, basketball and baseball cards as a kid for the fun and excitement. I still have thousands of them but I doubt if I have many complete sets. I did get into collecting again when my son was young and I have over 1100 different Brett Favre cards. All from his Green bay Packer days. If interested, I'd part with them for the right price!

I have complete TOPPS sets from 1966 up to about 2013. I stopped after that as I didn't see much good from that point on.

The old cards are super neat to look at. Loved collecting but now I don't see the value with these later sets...

Very impressive indeed.

Did you buy them as complete sets or did you complete the sets from pack purchases/buying individual cards/trading?

You can still buy printed Beckett price guides. I think the preferred method nowadays is to check recent sales to determine approximate value. You can search ebay's sold listings either directly on the ebay site using the advanced search, or indirectly via web sites like 130point.com or sportscardspro.com.

I probably have over 100K in Hockey memorabilia. Yeah. I probably spent twice that to get the collection since the early 90s.
Used to buy boxes of cards for 200 or 300 and toss what I didn't want
Now I buy specific players and items, welcome to the new age.
Not all old stuff is worth money, just the more limited items.

I used to buy boxes in the late 90s. When I ended up with 5 cards each of a bunch of players that weren't worth the cardboard they were printed on, I started buying single cards of players I wanted to collect. Unfortunately, I made the bad decision of buying low value cards, because, at the time, I couldn't justify spending a few hundred dollars on a single card even though I could afford it. 20+ years later, most of the player cards I collected have increased in value, but not significantly. And a lot of those higher value cards I could have afforded back then are no longer affordable.

Guessing one of the cards that flew off my bicycle spokes when I was 6 was a Pete Rose rookie card

Sorry folks, have been busy flying -

Baseball only, collected for years, then hit eBay for the items I didn't have -- last eBay buying of missing cards was 2005.

Lots of HOF cards too ;o)

I can provide pics of the 60's, 70's cards (my fav years) if folks want to see them ;o)
