Question Roof Ditch Rails Fading and Cracking

The body colored "Roof Ditch Rails" on our 2010 Crystal Red Red Jewel Tintcoat RS fixed roof (delivered May 2009) are deteriorating.
By that I mean, the color is fading and starting to get small cracks in them.
The car has been extremely well cared for - washed and waxed at least 2X month. I was garaged for the first 5 1/2 years and outside since then.
I started to notice this about a month ago. No amount of polishing or light compounding is bringing them back to life. A search has turned up nada.
Its raining so I can't really get any good pix of it.
Anyone else noticing this happening on theirs?
Thanks.....

Mine started doing this a couple months ago. It’s not bad yet however I’m sure it won’t take long and it will be. Looks like a spider web on the ditch mounding.

Sounds like mine. I know the mouldings can be replaced - about $50 each plus end clips - and then you must have them painted, or just buy the black ones.
Installation seems like just popping out the old ones and pushing in the replacements.

Not hard to do. I’ve looked into changing mine but I haven’t gotten around to it yet. I should have picked them up already cause I just dropped a splitter off at the shop today to get painted. Could’ve done both at once... but I didn’t.

Mine are doing the same thing. I think I read somewhere it means the clear coat has failed. I figured eventually Ill find out how much it cost to repaint them both. Nothing wrong with the rubber itself.

sunlight deteriorates everything. UV is your car finish's enemy. if you can't garage it, buy a bag. great for all seasons

Just wrap them. When/if the color fades again, just rewrap.

All good suggestions, above. I especially like the idea of wrapping with carbon fiber vinyl.

I've noticed this on our IBM 2012RS. Frustrating and just hope it isn't a sign of things to come with the rest of the body paint.

Car covers create far more issues unless they are used strictly for storage and indoors, but that is for a different thread.

As for the op, they are made out of cheap plastic and is pretty well known to need replacing after a time. There are a few threads on here about it.

So even if they are cheap plastic, you cant just repaint them vs replace?

If you can remove them without damaging them, sure, but good luck with that. The issue I had and have seen on others, isn't really the paint. It's that the sun makes them brittle and have cracked or broke.
