ZL1 Satellite Radio Observation
Hey guys,
Today while adding another vehicle to my SXM account, I noticed that my 18' ZLE only has "XM Radio" service rather than the "SXM Radio" service that our new Hyundai has. Looking back at my account, after selling my Jeep SRT and switching service to the ZLE, the SRT also had "SXM Radio" service, but my service has now been switched to "XM Radio" service. Thinking a mistake had been made, I called in and spoke with a SiriusXM representative about the situation. She explained that the radios used in current GM products are much older than other manufacturers and do not support "SXM Radio" service. I am a first time GM owner and completely get that most of us that own the ZL1, especially the 1LE variant like myself most likely don't care at all about this, but it was quite shocking to me that hardware in 2018 GM vehicles is so far behind. I certainly was not expecting GM to have the latest and greatest technology, but SXM has been around forever, so the fact that GM hasn't caught up is just mind-blowing. Apologies if this has been discussed before, just never was it mentioned online or anywhere and again I simply assumed all newer radios were SXM ready.

Interesting catch. But sound quality is so poor over satellite band that I didn’t think anyone bothered to listen to it.

Hmm, never knew about this. I typically listen to the symphony for 8 cylinders anyway.
Oh, and I've just checked, BMW has the same level of support in their radios, according to siriusxm.com... although granted, the query tool and the info on this site looks pretty suspect in itself---it doesn't list traffic and weather availability for either BMW or GM, which I clearly do have, traffic is listed with my account but weather isn't, which is incorrect. Then the customized page for the 2018 Camaro shows SiriusXM services, but they are listed as XM elsewhere... looks like a total mess to me, unless I'm not seeing something obvious.
