If the car is worth keeping sometimes you have to bite the bullet and do the proper repairs. I've been there before, and a repair like that is an emergency last ditch thing to get you here and there until you get a chance to fix it.

Nowadays, instead of modding, I try to save money by buying a roadworthy daily driver and maintaining it properly. It has saved me a lot of heartache from multiple and expensive mechanical repairs.

That car is worth keeping. But I'm always on the edge of paying for the right fix or doing a quick job cause I never know if it will break on me for good. I did put 1500$ worth of clutch and exhaust repairs before winter. I think I'll deal with the tape for a while and see if it holds tight!
