Saw this on Chevrolet Performance Instagram story.

I'm looking at a photo of that one and a photo of the stock SS caliper and they look identical except for the color. I wonder if it will just be a color upgrade to match the fronts on the optional 6 pot setup. Especially because it says caliper upgrade but nothing about disks.

My guess it might be for the LS/LT Camaros so they can have the matching SS rear brakes if they want along with the 4 pot front brake upgrade.

I hope they also make them in orange to match the front on a 2LT Fifty.

My guess is the new caliper has an addition to attach the parking brake plug addition. Like a bracket

The way the current one works is an electronic lever actuator to twist and press thru the caliper to piston and the caliper slides to pinch the rotor.. If Brembo made some type of machining to it to allow that on one of it's pistons, but one out of 4 (as the caliper does not slide), not sure that would work, as it would need the piston on the other side to move in also to actually pinch the rotor. They would also have to make either an entirely new casting with the proper length and spacing of the caliper mounts or create a adapter bracket to connect to the shorter and closer mount holes on the RS knuckle. Only other way would be a huge conversion package of everything to do a complete swap to the SS style or maybe a electronic motor/ fluid lock valve to create a way to lock the pressure in the caliper and lock it, but normally they want a mechanical brake separate of the fluid brake system. |
