Front brake rotor replacement

Hey everyone first post here after having the car for about 2 months and so far it has not disappointed at all after 2 track days and daily driving. One thing I've wondered a bit is when it comes time to replace the front rotors, as they are 2 piece I would have thought that you could just buy the rotor rings, GM only seems to offer the complete rotor and hat assembly. Has anyone else seen just the ring or are we doomed to buying the complete assembly every time?

that is correct. There is no way to find the OEM replacement size rings for our cars just yet. With that said, there's also no cost savings with going with the rings since OEM rotors are (even as a whole unit) still cheaper than the aftermarket rings.

I have been also doing my research on this and had a chance to speak with a couple makers and will keep everyone update on this

oh another option is the slotted rotors but I remember reading they weigh the same with the OEM blank 2 pieces so it doesn't seem like a good option to justify the price tag on each rotor ($250 vs $500!!)

The similar drilled rotors for the C7 Z06 only costs about $250-300 not sure why ours are that expensive but unlike the Corvettes ours are rotational which is very good

Definitely interested in any aftermarket options you may find. How are you liking the Raybestos ST43s? Do you run them daily as well and how do they handle that?

DBA makes rings, you can get them from KNSbrakes or PFYC. If you search this subforum for DBA or rotor rings you will find the thread with part numbers.

Thanks for posting the correct Part#s.

However, you mixed up Left and Right Part#s.

Corrected:

23142500 = L
23189768 = R

Just a hint.. if you plug in the ac delco equivalent numbers of the gm 1LE 6 piston rotors, and use the 5% coupon at rock auto... 335 shipped. Just sayin.

DBA rotors work great. And they're cheaper.

Good Info

So the AC Delco equivalents are:

177-1193 = L
177-1194 = R

Anyone know if the caliper mounting bolts need to be replaced when doing a rotor job? What part number would they be and torque spec?

By the way guys does 1LE SS and GrandSport brakes have the same brakes, rotor appart (which are slotted on the GS)
They look pretty close for what I see, same size and 6 pots both....

I have a set of pads from the GS I don't use since I run Carbotech racing pads on the vette......

Thx
