Royal Purple will tell you there is... oddly enough the other manufacturers tell you their own benefits...

Is there any advantage in durability/engine life running an oil that's ZDDP enhanced? I run Penn grade 1 in my gen1 sbc and have been really happy with it. Haven't looked into their synthetics yet though, would a modern engine get any benefit from more Zinc?

Additives do play a factor in how an oil performs. Most people change their synthetic oil way too frequently for that to play a major factor in engine wear though compared to the competitors additives.

If you're changing the oil when you change out the filter every 5k miles or so then the additives and minute differences in the synthetic oils dont have time to outperform. That's fine for your engine. Not really a big deal for your wallet. Means you can buy whatever synth is on sale.

Using Mobil 1 currently, but I may switch to Amsoil.

I used to have an 03 Montero LTD that I bought with 58k miles. Soon after, I put in Amsoil 0W30 and changed it every 30k miles and filter every 15k. It always did use about a quart every 7-8k miles, but when it was sold with 230k, it ran as strong and shifted as smoothly as the day I bought it (I also changed the trans over to Amsoil ATF) It never had an internal engine/trans problem and none of the seals ever leaked.
It was an off-road beast for sure and it had it's share of little frustrating problems but never left me stranded. It had a solid engines/trans, but I'm still amazed about the durability and drain intervals Amsoil was able to support.

My favorite oil is Belgian Castrol Syntec 0w30. I've heard that the German 0w40 is just as good and cheaper so I will try it out next time.

Why so many Pennzoil fans here? Not knocking it, just curious.

You can read up on oil at bobistheoilguy.com pretty much standard for people comparing oil now a days. The Pennzoil platinum is the best from Walmart oil based on information I have researched.

Personally I run amsoil in all of my toys.
